Also, with the exception of toy breeds, very few show dogs go into a ring only getting fancied up.
Typically the breeds compete in sports aligned with their breeding. These spaniel pups will likely spend their real dog lives out in a field on actual hunt or hunt tests - the shows are a small part of their lives.
To command breeding fees, the dogs should conform physically to the breed standard - that is ‘show’ portion of it but also should demonstrate their ability to work in what they were bred for - hunting, in this case for spaniels. Their are titles that are usually attained in field tests that get attached to the dog’s pedigree, increasing their stud fees.
No one would pay much for a puppy without these titles somewhere in their pedigree, as that is what backyard breeders do. Responsible breeders preserve the breed, and to do so, the dogs need to prove their working drive.
Long winded way of saying these dogs live a life far richer than the average let dog going to the dog park.
