What can you ask sitters to do?

For sheets I wash, dry and put them back on if I have the time on departure day, if not I leave them in the hamper. I could certainly put new on from the closet if asked. What is done has for me been agreed before sit.

A lot of people who sit might HATE gardening. I apply to care pets and leave house as I found it. I would never apply if gardening was involved

I’d be thinking she NEEDED therapy!

So if they don’t use sheets from the cupboard, no washing or ironing? If the sit was longer than a week and sheets were washed during the sit and then replaced on the bed without ironing, but the sitter was still using them, not the ones from the cupboard, is that OK?

Great reply!

I so agree. I had 6 sits and all said leave the dirty sheets on top of the washing machine. I did the same on the 7th. She marked me down ( first time no 5 stars) for not washing the sheets and putting them back on the bed. She never asked me to do it and I had no idea sitters were requested to as the others didn’t. I was in shock. Honestly I don’t think we should be requested to. Too many bottom sheets, top sheets, two or more blankets. I do paid sits and not one has asked anything other than putting sheets on top of washer. I get paid $8O. A night for private sits. They are in my backyard which is why I use TH to travel. Communication is the key .

I see a lot of them in the thrift stores - I wonder why

I’m open to mowing a small lawn and weeding a small garden on a long sit. I find the idea of ironing sheets rather hilariously pointless, so that’s the one I’d pass on!

Oh good grief, life is way to short to be ironing sheets

If a host doesn’t mention how to handle laundry, I ask. That way, no miscommunication or assumptions. I’ve encountered all variations — wash and reset bedding, leave on the bed, strip, fold and leave in the laundry area / laundry room.

At homes where they don’t have a dryer, I’ve left linens hanging to dry, indoors, since they had racks for that.

Yes I assumed. I also assumed people will tell you what they want and not be passive aggressive in their review. I learned you now have to ask. When I ask now I still get just leave the sheets on the washer. She remains the only one wanting their bedding made as of today and took it as a personal insult that it wasn’t. A learning curve in all new adventures.

Got it. My strategy in that case would be to wash the sheets I was using if I needed and live with the wrinkles. My heart is in the right place with gardening, but a glass of wine (and comprehensive instructions) would be helpful.

Also I’d probably mention the crisply ironed clean fresh sheets with gratitude in a review.

I have to assume that these standards vary regionally. I’ve had only a small number of times when I was asked to leave the sheets; the others all requested that, unless I was heading out very early, I remake the bed.

I might weed if I felt like it because sometimes it’s calming. I don’t know how to iron. But if I saw a listing stating these were responsibilities, I would pass.

I would NEVER iron sheets or anything else. I am not a housemaid and I do not expect ironed sheets. Never in my life I’ve done that.

Nope, I am German, 43 years old and I do not iron anything.

Difficult. What would you say when they reply: Please iron the sheets?

Thanks, but I don’t think we’re a good match. Best wishes on finding a great sitter.

But no host has ever asked me for such. As I mentioned above, I have stayed where they had sheets ironed, but the regular cleaners did that.

But what if they say it on their last day on holiday when you are already there for a week or couple of weeks? ā€œHey Maggie, could you please wash the bed sheets and iron them?ā€

Afraid not. As we discussed previously, I’ll do X with the linens.
