What do professional pet-sitters make of this arrangement?

I have noticed this recently. I’ve seen some appealing sits which, upon further inspection, suggest the HO is very demanding and expects a great deal from sitter. In my experience, the most enjoyable sits are those with owners who genuinely want you to feel comfortable in their home and trust you to take care of their animals, rather than listing endless requirements that are difficult to fulfil.

I have found the same in the years I’ve been a member.

Oh, how interesting! I’ve not noticed that, even with the new homeowner members I’ve sat for recently. But I do tend to pass on any listings that say the dog has separation anxiety or cannot be left alone for more than an hour or two. That’s just not what I’m looking for.

Hi there,
Don’t know if it’s at all indicative but I’ve had a couple of home-owners who have told me they would never have ‘professional’ house-sitters again because they were only professional in the sense they asked for money for their services. One owner had a smallholding and she was sent a young man by a professional house sitting agency and he had no experience with animals whatsoever.
That being said, now I have my own pet I realise the immense amount of trust you have to place in a house-sitter!

The company I work for is National & has been going for 20 years. Maybe they used rover?

I don’t know to be honest. These were anecdotes from HOs.

Petb&b is full of students whose only training is having had dogs as children. They charge for their services. Surely that is more eroding of professional sitters than people who care for pets in exchange for accommodation as on THS?
