I don’t understand. If a host or sitter recommends THS, the person they are recommending it to isn’t “referred”. Or maybe they are but I still don’t quite follow. All you gotta do is say “there’s this really good pet sitting platform where you can stay in someone’s home for free, or you can get a sitter to watch your pets and property for free, check it out. And if you join and (somehow get my name in there, I don’t know how the referral part works, it’s something to do with codes) I get 2 free months for having mentioned it to you.”
My focus is more on sits with low responsibilities located in highly sought-after travel destinations. A more precise analysis requires categorical analysis.
Similarly, it would be interesting to know the distribution of pet sitter profiles according to their search criteria and objective.

I spent the day hiking up to waterfalls in Honiara with a bunch of locals that I met along the way. It’s 6 pm here. I treated 2 of them to wine and dinner at the resort I’m staying at, they were very appreciative. Those guys know how to drink. 
On the way back from the waterfalls we took the river back to town. It involved a lot of swimming. So I filled your Rx.

It depends on the context of the conversation and the socio-professional environment where you are. I don’t want to ruin a conversation with new people by acting like a saleswoman working for THS to earn a very hypothetical 15 euros.
It is not the same when you have your own blog website about petsitting. The people who read your blog are real potential new members and all you have to do is mention the referral link, it’s automatic.
I’m just mentioning that I do pet sitting with THS when it happens talking about holidays and travel. I do not have in front of me people who are directly interested but they could talk about it later to friends, family, etc., who might be interested.
You’re giving the idea to people who might consider it later. Two free months aren’t going to make a difference and not going to trigger an immediate purchase for these people.
Moreover it would be more effective to offer a two-month free trial.

I’m aware that my experience isn’t relevant to everyone, and that’s just like chance in life. What’s frustrating is that I would like to have statistics on the experiences of THS members.

I’m guessing that the majority of discount codes are disseminated online without much of a “sales pitch” though social media and to people who are already interested in joining.
If someone fairly savvy was interested in joining they could simply ask the browser to search for such codes.
There are members who have multiple years of THS through the use of codes. No matter their tier, they won’t be facing booking fees for years to come unless THS starts charging them prior to renewal.
One way of beating the booking fee would be to find a place to drop a code to push back the renewal date. Some people might feel this is not ethical and might not want to do that.

You’re in good company. If I had to wager a guess, this is about putting your own personal referral code for THS “out there” on the internet via some form of social media, so when people use it, you get the credit for it. Sort of like when you look for discount coupons when making a purchase. Someone benefits from it being used.
