Would like to meet Sitter first, so no applicants

I understand that this is normal behaviour for Pico , but he may not be a suitable pet for a THS sit .

The T&Cs ( Clause 5.2.11.) state that sits must
not have ……. any animal with a history of attacks on pets or people;

Unfortunately I think this means Pico is not eligible for a THS sitter. Any pet with with a history of biting people or pets it not allowed on the platform. I think you should explore paid sitter options. This doesn’t seem like a good fit for THS, especially if you aren’t getting applicants and you want specific experience with indoor birds. I have experience with chickens but I would not consider that sufficient for what you are asking for here.

Hmm, yes I see what you are both saying and referring to.
It is so hard to find anyone to care for a bird :sob:
THS is definitely tailored for the standard pets… anybody who knows birds knows they arent domesticated and can bite, its not quite like a dog biting. I don’t think I would say Pico ‘attacks’. It’s if you dont understand his body language he will tell you with his beak. But I see where you and THS are coming from and of course why that is the policy.

We have managed to successfully use the platform for housesitters, so it is possible to find sitters who understand, and they have always fed back that he has been wonderful with them. Its just so difficult to find these people!

Thanks all for your input and advice on here.

Not sure why you think anyone who would be prepared actually to travel to be vetted by you, even if their travel costs were reimbursed, would be a “time-waster”…

What an excellent idea!

Ah just re-read this, that one you mention isnt my advert (though I sympathise with them and completely understand as a parrot owner). It still stands as good advice, thanks. Not sure if my dates then might be set private, I will have to look at that!

Hello. I think you are a great parent to your parrot. But it is possible that even after you make some of the changes to your post, you won’t find a TH you feel is right for your parrot. Maybe ask your vet about paid sitters they might recommend, or ask someone where you got the parrot if there are any local sitters they recommend.
Good luck.

I no longer require this for our sits but I used to, and I offered to provide accommodations the night before if the sitter needed it. Only one took us up on this - but it was a hardship for them to come the day before so I felt it was necessary.

I love birds and would love to care for a parrot some time! I had my own budgies for over 10 years.
However I live in Ireland, so could not easily pop over and visit.
Lots of animals bite or nip if you handle them the wrong way. I disagree with people who say that these animals are aggressive and not eligible for THS. Lots of cats scratch and bite!

The post people refer to is a different bird, a cockatiel. Not a parrot, more like a bigger budgie.
I liked that ad a lot actually.
