My husband Chris and I took a year off in 2018/2019 to travel, basing ourselves in Spain to house and pet sit and explore the country between sits. What a fabulous lifestyle we had. We loved our time with dogs and cats and meeting new people and exploring off the beaten track places.
We try to connect with other sitters if possible, in person or in online forums. I feel like I now many sitters that I’ve never met! But we have enjoyed meeting up with some of you too in NZ, Spain, France, Mexico and Australia… it’s amazing where house sitters pop up!
Back home in NZ, we continued house and pet sitting as a way of exploring the possibilities of a move - and it was a very good way of trying out new locations and refining where we wanted to move to. We moved cities earlier this year, just before NZ went into lockdown, which was a blessing for sure, but it does mean our travel plans have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. But now we are looking at house/pet sitting opportunities in our own country as things are settling down here.
