I am from New Zealand and my husband is Swedish. We first started housesitting in NZ in 2018 as it was an ideal way, at minimum expense, for me to show my husband a lot of New Zealand and also saved us from disrupting my children’s family lives for extended periods of time. We first anticipated doing this to escape the Swedish winters for 6 months of the year, but since the pandemic hit, and NZ has largely been locked down, we decided to focus our housesitting on Europe and have just completed two housesits (1 of 3 weeks and 1 of 4 weeks) in southern France. These should have occurred in 2020, but again due to restrictions on travel, were delayed until 2021. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in these sits and had we not had frozen water pipes and an exploding water meter in our Swedish home, would have done a 3rd sit in Spain. Back home in Sweden now, we are now thinking of sits in USA and, of course in New Zealand once the restrictions and quarantine requirements are lifted.
