Advice With Hostile Cat Concern

Try putting the harness on and leave him by the door, then tie the lead to something outside. Make it his idea to wonder out there. We used a weight (a dumbbell) to tie his lead to. If it’s a short lead, just move him around the yard with it and let him be on his own.

But make sure he can’t escape from the harness. Cats are escape artists and if they can get out of the harness, they will!

That is so true! I’d never leave a cat alone in a harness. One of ours can escape his. He’s a good boy and won’t if we’re there at the other end of the leash, but we’ve seen he definitely can do it when he wants.

Actually, I think that’s one reason why he tolerates the harness, he knows he could get out of it if he wanted to But as we only use harness while traveling, it’s not been a problem.

After our kitten (not now) had her op, the vet put on a vest so she couldn’t eat her stitches. It had a place for a lead should they wear one. A bit like a premi baby/doll vest. That’d keep the harness on.

He may like a large cardboard box or some things to investigate indoors. Sounds like he had better not go outside.
