And Detroit. I have several appointments back in Detroit when I get back.
actually I forgot about the 2 toronto sits. You are right. I knew you would catch any discrepcancies. I have just been in the states since mid Nov.
@Katie, really sorry to hear of your situation. Seems rather beyond housesitting . But hereās three tips.
- THS search function. THS platform shows the universe of available housesits. Approximately half are in the US. So approximately half are outside the US. THS seems to have many international housesits in UK, Canada and Australasia. A smaller selection of opportunities arise in Europe and other international locations.
- Full-time housesitting. The housesitter community is diverse and includes a subset of people that, for one reason or another, choose to housesit full-time. While this may sound fanciful then it does require considerable time/effort/attitude. But removal of most shelter/utility costs (or release of capital for income generation) could potentially have a material financial impact. No advice is intended.
- Affordable destinations is more tricky as affordable is a subjective term that means different things to different people. Domestic vs international. Employed vs retired vs remote worker. Personal finances. Standard of living. Visas. For example, Southern Europe is relatively low cost, but housesits are more sporadic, and youād clearly have to fund travel costs. Some companies publish lists of places to live (retire domestic/international, live, raise kids, all sorts). We found website Numbeo handy to assess/compare cost of living in different locations.
Hello everyone,
While discussions about current events and important topics can be valuable and relevant in the context of house sitting, I think we should draw a line under this conversation per our Community Guidelines.
US politics are particularly polarising at the moment. No matter the intent, the online discourse leads to arguments, frustration, and division rather than constructive conversations. Our forum is meant to be a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone, and political debates generally create a lot of tension.
There are plenty of other online spaces which I think are better equipped to handle the subject, and Iād encourage you to take those discussions to spaces designed for them as I understand this is a time of uncertainty for many.
Instead, letās focus on topics that align with the forumās purpose and bring the community together. Whether itās supporting new members, sharing advice, or just having fun, letās keep the discussions aligned with what makes this space great.
Thanks for understanding.
Jenny
