OMG. We’re geeky trivia twins !
brilliant!!
We had this issue at an Airbnb in Burlington Vermont- eventually a local showed us an alternative door around the back of the property as apparently nobody in that street used their front doors which were barred shut from the inside ![]()
WOW, that’s like something you watch on The Bill, where criminals, Cannabis farmers etc won’t allow access.![]()
And yep we were on one ‘those’ streets it was like a scene from The Wire! There’d been a murder in the street the weekend before with police tape everywhere… tbh a few of the locals (all really big tough black guys with gold teeth and chains etc) looked after us advising on safety etc. and took us under their wing a bit checking in on us each day after we got back from our trips out. I think they were fascinated by our very English accents…. it was a very odd experience back in 2022.
@Jenny Any changes made to the Welcome Guide after it has been sent should show the original information lined through and the new information in red.
We shouldn’t have to take screenshots of each and every page (although I do with the more pertinent pages) and compare it to new information. This should have been thought out prior to making the Welcome Guide feature.
@RedLassie I did not know that – thanks for the trivia! ![]()
Many locksmiths say to use graphite powder to fix sticky locks, instead of WD-40. That’s because graphite is dry and won’t leave residue that attracts dirt and such. But there’s conflicting guidance, based on what type of weather you live in.
No doubt she is!
She subsequently clarified that the pets weren’t in urgent need of care at the time of the lockout.
I’ll pop that feedback over to the team @Whirld-Traveller ![]()
I did a sit one time too with fetching the key to the front door of her apartment from a lock box……key would not work, texted her and she said the thing attached to the key was a fob to get into the door…..technology!! Never would have figured that one out on my own, I swear! Funny not funny.
Thank you, Jenny!
Absolutely agree that unattended handovers generally for me r off the table. I’m fairly new to sitting but have worked all my life in areas generally property maintenance related. what owners think is normal and self-evident is maybe super quirky. I now make sure that as well as the general orientation, I try out everything personally. I get the key & test it on all the doors. I want to find the fuse box/circuit breakers and see I can reach it (have had some really carefully hidden behind paintings or in the garage above a set of shelves.
Owners maybe think that’s OCD but I want to be ready for anything.
Hey. Just a warning. I was advised by a locksmith that WD40 is not ideal for locks as oil based and can cause clogging. They recommend graphite powder. Just saying.
And I have heard teflon sprays are the very best. In the US, there is one sold through the Blaster line of products, called Blaster Dry Lube. It actually sprays out as a fine white powder. WD40 and other “wet” products will all eventually get gunky.
Sometimes.. particularly on ups doors you need to punch the handle up when turning the key
