Our listing clearly states we expect daily updates. We also reiterate this on the video call to confirm it’s not a problem.
We expect a photo or video “proof of life” daily and also expect sitters to be reachable and responsive within a timely manner if we do message them and need something.
again, all made clear and reiterated well ahead of sit confirmation.
You could add a line to the responsibilities: “Would appreciate a daily pic as this is the first time we’ve left ‘x’ alone and would love to know she’s doing well” - or something like this, so it’s clear you’re not asking for a daily essay.
I usually send an update and pics when my hosts are on the flight - so when they land they have peace of mind that all is going well. Then I send daily pics for the first few days, then every few days. Most Hosts ask me NOT to send daily messages because they want to enjoy their holiday!!
List in the responsibilities sections whatever will provide you with the most assurance, and sitters happy to this will apply.
Nobody has asked me that. I have had a couple of hosts saying there’s no need for regular updates or, to my question how often they would like to be updated, they have said one or two updates for a 10 day sit is OK, they trust me, etc. But never in those words I would feel a bit puzzled.
@Newpetlover Yes it’s strange to get a response like that. We had one host who specifically said NO need for updates, except emergencies. And this was for a dog who’d just had emergency surgery and was still in recovery with a bandage on! The owner just requested we don’t let the dog in the river while she still had the bandage on. She only wanted one update -when we took the dog to the vet (half way though the 2 week sit) to get the stitches out! The dog was beautiful and a model patient. We grew very fond of her so did up sending the odd short update (which the host did actually appreciate!)
