Blow Dryer

This might seem weird but is it appropriate to ask the owner if they have a blow dryer we can use? Thanks!

I ask all the time. I will say something like, ā€œno problem if you don’t, but I thought I’d ask in the thought of saving space in my luggage – will there be a hair dryer I can use at your place or are you taking yours with youā€?

Totally fine to ask. I specify in our listing that we’ll leave a blow dryer. It’s so annoying to have to drag one around on your travels.

Fine to ask. I’ve not needed one, but some hosts have left them out for me or asked if I wanted one.

If you have a good vibe with the owners then just ask.

I have asked on a few occasions and homeowners always happy to oblige.

It’s one of the options listed under ā€œAmenitiesā€, so owners can choose it and it will be displayed.

Even if it is listed on amenities, you may still want to ask. I have had HO s state there is a hairdryer supplied but it is nowhere to be found. So I still end up taking a small one just in case.

They probably packed it and took it with them on their trip.

Of course! I normally sit in places I can drive to and bring one with me, as well as my own, small blender for my morning smoothie. But when I am flying somewhere, I will ask about the hair dryer and the blender. Sometimes, if they don’t have the thing I need, they will offer to borrow one for me, which is really lovely.

Hair dryer is considered an amnity and is now on the amneities list, so you could see if it’s mentioned. You could also just ask. It’s not inapprorpriate at all. I’m combined, but joined first as a homeowner. The second sit, the sitter texted me about the hair dryer. I had one, but it was in a drawer and I didn’t want her rummaging through my drawers to find it, so I just told her I didn’t have one. I felt so guilty about this later! I’ve left it out and visible every sit since.

Since most hotels and all airbnbs have them, it’s likely if you host is traveling, they’ve left one home.

As this is probably not a dealbreaker, I’d wait till a sit is confirmed, and a week or two before, I’d text the HO and politiely ask.

I suppose I will now have to ask ā€˜do you have a hairdryer AND will you be leaving it at home for me to use?’ Good grief …

ā€œIs there a hairdryer available for me to use?ā€

it is part of the application we fill out - amenities possibly… Including the use of a vehicle, bike, public transit…

Thanks everyone! Question answered. Much appreciated!
