Cat Spayed 4 Days Before Pet Sit

Just read your follow up. Given the dogs, I’d absolutely request a follow up as rough play and various things could potentially happen, so I’d want to know if the cat should be separated and how that would work. Sounds doable, but IMO better with a face to face online chat then just some new instructions.

While you can’t cancel as a sitter, you can request they unconfirm you if you feel this is a really bad idea and you can contact THS is you feel a need to cancel and they won’t do it (I don’t think it has to come to that.) You can negotiate for what you’ll need to make it work.

Thank you, I think your guidance is very appropriate for the situation. All the best to you, MP!

If the kitty is going to need to be separated, and is in a cone, and with a stranger, I’d also ask them to do a quick telehealth with the vet about stress and consider getting some gabapentin maybe even transdermal or microtabs in case the cat is overly stressed in the situation.

Saw one of these recently and thought it was a brilliant upgrade to the whole cone situation!

Love it when medicine advances :joy:

That is definitely wrong. If the cat is allowed outdoors, I bet she was pregnant, not in heat.

And thank you for helping with TNR! I have 2 in my garage waiting for surgery tomorrow.

Putting all emotion aside, I think a video chat is in order since the HO gave you a blank pet section with THREE animals. It would be helpful to know the true age of the cat, it’s personality (mellow, super active, etc.), how does it interact with the dogs, how do the dogs act towards the cat, etc. Four days in the cat will be well on its way to healing barring complications. It will also be used to the e-collar, shirt or donut or whatever it may be wearing if it bothered the incision at all (some cats don’t). I have TNRd many many cats over the past 10 years in the US and Mexico, sometimes they can be in bad shape due to being feral. If they are not in good health from the beginning, complications are more common. I’m guessing since they already have owned the cat for a bit it is in good shape with food, shelter, love. But best to check. I fostered a kitten 1.5 yrs ago from the streets and took it in THE DAY after spay surgery, it was about 12 weeks old but small. It had problem after problem at her spay incision as it wouldn’t close up and heal, it was oozy but not infected, she wanted to lick it I had to make her a cone on the fly. I made it from a small paper plate (I live in Mexico, some things are not readily available). After it healed up a couple weeks later, no more cone, THEN a stich poked through the incision site and was oozing again so she wanted to lick it again, so the paper plate cone went on again. Then i had to trim the stitch carefully and wait until it closed up so she can be cone free again.

What I am saying is you really need to video chat to ask A LOT of questions due to there be no WG and this new info. (I’d ask: age, how long they’ve had her, is it in good health, what is the dog sitch, cats personality, etc). Regarding the age being 1 but its first heat, etc., here are the options for age for a cat in a profile, I took this from my own HO profile, maybe they haven’t owned it long enough to have a heat while their pet.

How did the initial video chat go, if you had one? Have a new one and gather everything you need to know to make the decision if you want to do this sit or not. You can always graciously ask to be cancelled if its not for you (for ANY reason of your choice) and tell HO you are not comfy with the post surgical sitch.

Regarding packages, I don’t think it is a big ask at all but the tone combined with the cat surgery is compounding.

Let us know what you decide.

P.S. In case you wanted to see it, this is my foster kittens’ paper plate cone, she also had eye infections since she has feline herpes and was stressed in a new home. She is now an adult in a home with 2 loving brother cats and great mom.
