I normally would be tourleading far away over Christmas, however my trip got cancelled. And I very much dislike being at home or in my part of the world during the Christmas holidays, so yes I’m now on the market as well. Have just started to look for Christmas sits since yesterday. Searching for sits not being UK (don’t live there) and pref not W-Europe either (too grey, bleak, wet etc = similar to home country weather).
Thaaaaanks @temba , you too ![]()
I love seeing everyone’s plans ! ![]()
Back in the same week in August we were invited back to both a lovely repeat UK sit over the Xmas/ New Year holidays and also an attractive looking sit on an Italian Island which we had favourited. After a video call we opted to go for the second option as it’s somewhere we’ve never been before and we’re open to a new experience. Originally it was going to be a 3 week sit but then got cut shorter to a 10 day sit which finishes on December 30th - the owners asked us of course whether we were still interested in this shorter sit and we agreed. I’ve set up a saved search as well for New Year’s in Europe in case anything interesting comes up that we might consider, if not we’re happy to do some not sit travel for New Year’s.
I have a sit over the Christmas period - I’m new to the site and either am doing something (maybe everything!) wrong or my listing is unappealing, or not getting in front of the right people who are available and interested. I have no idea. Not panicking yet but wondering if I could be doing something that I am not - want to check out my sit? Offer advice on what I could do better? Good luck.

The last 2 Christmases we booked in the summer and had great 2 month sits in Mexico City and the French Alps. This year we have just finished a cat sit in the Andes in Ecuador and have nothing lined up for Christmas. Fingers crossed that something comes up in South America that fits our fancy. Often after agreeing to a sit in advance another amazing opportunity presents itself, that goes with the territory. This year we are delaying our choice.
Hi Kate - It might be late to posting a Christmas now as there are more sits than sitters for Christmas. But you could start a new thread for help on your listing. You’ll need to post the listing on the thread. (I’m not an expert on that, but other people can help you with that.)
For the first time ever, we will be without family on the 25th so I’m looking for just a very short sit. I’ve been looking for about a month but my parameters are very specific
- south of the M25 - don’t wish to be caught up in traffic jams
- Maximum 90 min drive
- Beautiful, comfortable house- better than ours!
I’m not desperate to find a sit, but if the perfect ones presents itself, ill apply .
Thank you Marion - I will do that.
Alright! I knew something would come up and call to me! I’ve just confirmed a Christmas sit in a 16th century mill-house right on the river, with a little dog and 2 kittens! And it’s 20 minutes drive away from my parents in the English west country.
I knew something wonderful would appear!
I am not seeking a holiday sit for either Thanksgiving (I’m American) or Christmas because my elderly mother expects me to join the rest of the family - but I love perusing all the sit choices and imagining being free to do my own thing!
. If I were to book a sit over the holidays, I can tell that for the places I’m interested in (off the beaten path, rather than NYC, London, etc.) there would be plenty to choose from, even last minute. I think the biggest drawback to winter sits at my age (65) is I can no longer engage in winter sports such as skiing and skating, and snow removal is tough for me. I prefer northern locations, so I would seek out a cozy cabin or cottage in the woods or by a body of water with a fireplace or wood stove and at least one cat to keep my lap warm! In fact, I’m on a sit like this right now and am in heaven!
Fantastic! I hope you have a very happy holiday there ![]()
I have always wanted to do a sit in a mill house - enjoy .
That’s great news @Rhe! Waiting paid dividends. What a fantastic sit too. I’m envious!
I think this will be my second mill, I looked after an old water mill in the middle of France last year, with a basement room full of gushing water and old machinery!
Love it, love it, love it ![]()
That sounds fantastic @Rhe ! A mill house is also on my wishlist @Silversitters
We’re a family of four and don’t have a sit secured just yet. We always like to leave for 7-10 days after the festive days and prefer to go by car. Last year we agreed to a sit in northern Italy about beginning of December - it was amazing!
We’ve had some invitations this year which would have required a flight and were thus declined (Too expensive right now). And we are now discussing an option again in northern Italy. We hope it’ll work out!
If not, some cheap flights popped up to England on very short notice last year. We can be flexible then and maybe make a UK host happy very last minute ![]()
There’s no need to hurry for sitters during Christmas - which of course can be very stressful for HO.
