Thank you for that one! I have signed up.
No worries - it’s not just for pet sitting though, it’s for all sorts of pet care gigs, both paid or unpaid (pet-boarding, drop ins, hired dog walking etc) and technically you’re supposed to be a local, but hey I still managed to find something so there you go
I used the postal code of an old address of mine
Are you a citizen of an EU country? Just wondering what people do for visas for long sits. Lots of countries - EU, Turkey etc - only allow 90 days and then you have to be out for 90 days.
You bounce between them mostly @pambam57 Greece to Turkey for example is supe easy. We sit in Turkey, Europe, Asia, North Africa and just move or get visas as we need. We’re a Brit Turk combo so it’s always more complicated but we make it work. 3 years full time and 18 countries to date. 6 more planned this year, none need visas for stays up to 90 days. #allintheplanning
Selam! I lived in Turkey for over 35 years. Miss it terribly. And that’s what we’ve done as well which is why I was curious about the 5 months…I couldn’t do a stay longer than 90 days in the Netherlands but I’m guessing the OP is an EU citizen.
Amazing how you have managed to make all these sits fit like perfect puzzle pieces! Good on ya!
Yeah, we’re EU citizens and don’t require any visas
@anon47943759 - just curious why you say there is a shortage of sitters on THS? Do you have some factual statistics? I ask because many of us sitters feel there is much more competition than ever before, especially for certain areas, certain sits. We used to be able to apply easily but since the 5 cap rule we often can’t even apply before it shuts down.
I’d say there are plenty of sits at Thanksgiving and Christmas and yes, a shortage of sitters. But that isn’t the case for places like California, Portugal, Italy, Spain, France especially in cities. So it really depends on what sitters are looking for.
Everyone from the north looking for warmer weather in winter will have a very hard time finding sits. If sitters are happy in the UK during the cold months they’ll find lots of opportunities. So, all in all…we’ve been on here for 5 years and find it more competitive than ever. But we seek the sun, so that is likely a major reason why.
Yes, it seems that the shortage of sitters is in the UK and in large parts of the US. Competition is high in continental Europe, so I have joined a Dutch site now.
Factual statistics only THS can provide, but they are not talking.
Take a look at this forum. Almost every single day, people are complaining that they cannot find any sitters or that they get zero applicants. And this doesn’t only apply to the UK but also to other countries.
Sitters do not complain that they cannot find sits. When they complain, they complain about challenges with securing sits in the most desirable areas.
At this very moment, there are 3,469 sits listed in Europe alone. This week, June 6-13, starting tomorrow, there are still 52 sits in Europe accepting applications.
It would be interesting to know the stats. How many sitters vs HO’s who are members. I’d like to know. Personally, I don’t think there’s a shortage. But, I don’t actually know the facts either. I just think there is a mismatch - people can’t find sitters most likely bc the sits are not alluring, not because there aren’t sitters available. Many of us don’t want to be in the climates where others are trying to escape (cold, harsh winter; hot, sticky summer, etc). So there may be lots of sitters, just no one who wants to be in the UK when the weather stinks and there’s no public transportation…that kind of thing.
We have tried often to get sits in certain places and can’t even get an application in! LOTS of times this has happened to us. So, in those scenarios it certainly does not feel like there is a shortage of sitters!
