Worrying article about a lady called Ariana Rose.
After the tenancy fraud, Rose logged on to TrustedHousesitters last year and agreed to look after properties and pets in Essex, Hampshire, Somerset and Suffolk. While the owners were away, she stole jewellery, silverware and items of sentimental value.
How did she slip through the checks?
I hope her account has been removed and she’s been blacklisted.
There are no criminal background checks for sitters based outside of the U.S., so she didn’t “slip through.”
Jewelry needs to be put in a safe and the safe hidden when strangers come to watch your house. Even when having cleaning service. It would be more difficult to put away all the silver. Hopefully they caught her and recovered the items she took.
Vet your own sitters, always.
According to the article she has been jailed.
The items stolen from several properties some jewellery items but also included
a ski jacket, a Le Creuset pan, and a collection of Christmas baubles so not all were items you would put in a safe .
Good to hear she was jailed.
You just never know who you will end up getting. Luckily most people on all platforms are reasonable people.

The background checks are nice, but in reality, you just never know what the person is really like.
I mean there are a few instances of pets dying due to negligence by the house sitter, but that never shows up in background checks.
The best vetting is the Video call and your gut feeling. The background and ID checks are just bonuses.
Unfortunately, similar concerns exist even when you hire people locally, go with a pet-sitting service, or even kids of people you know. It sucks, but it’s always a chance you take. Although, a bonded pet-sitting company helps if any damage or theft occurs.
Also this was a Private prosecution so there was some ‘slippage’ there I suppose.

Yes, she’s all over the news I see. Seems she’s a veteran con-artist who’s used many different schemes & platforms to defraud others for over a decade…housesitting being just one of them.
Very unfortunate; feel sorry for anyone who got rooked by her. This kind of criminal can be so resourceful. Thank goodness they’re few and far between.
Absolutely—I have been on many sits with gold and diamond jewelry, Louboutin collections, and other valuables left in plain sight.
This was in the Mail Online today also, so will likely be in all the national papers.
