Conclusion Of Pausing Application Test - Updated Post

@Crookie Ben isn’t contradicting what Angela says (Angela is currently offline having spent a long night on the US timeline).

Both of them are saying that all communication channels are being utilized… newsletters, emails, dashboard prompts and more, and for the very reason you and @anon47943759 mention. Not all channels work for all people, so a mix of emails, newsletters, educational blogs, dashboard prompts and continual prompting, will ensure the highest number of people are reached. Ben is simply stating that for TrustedHousesitters specifically the highest open rate is for newsletters so as PART of the campaign this is an effective method of communication.

Having seen the communications plan which has been extensively researched and coordinated across a number of departments, I also as a sitter member, am confident that it is reaching as many people as possible.

@Ben-ProductManager I don’t know how often newsletters are issued but I haven’t received one since joining four months ago. I regularly check emails and would certainly open a newsletter if I received it.

I’m a person who reads emails and hates having to search for hard to find newsletters, which the THS one is a prime example. So based on the comms plan, are members going to receive emails about this pausing applications change? It’s a simple yes/no question.

I’ve also never received the newsletter by email. I didn’t know one existed until I heard about it on this forum and then had to ask where it was located as I couldn’t find it.

We can get the support team to look into this for you. I’ll get back to you … you too @Crookie. The newsletter is an email so it may be something to do with settings.

The last newsletter I received was on the 31st August

Thanks, if the last newsletter was 31 August then no, I definitely didn’t receive it. Will wait to hear back unless it is something I can change in my personal settings?

@Therese-Moderator I’m also not seeing any newsletters. Could you check for me, too? Thanks!

As a HO, must I decline all 5 applicants before unpausing. Or can I decline say 3 or 4 and then unpause?

If THS sent personal emails and put it in a newsletter that would use up a lot of ink and paper and…

What’s that? It’s all electronic?

Never mind

Hi @trekker954

You can decline say 3 or 4 and then unpause to get more applicants.

Thanks, Ben

Regarding getting important updates such as about the 5 application pause, I have found this:

  • nothing in the August newsletter
  • nothing on the web site
  • no pop-ups when getting on the web site
  • no way to pull up old newsletters on the web site
  • no emails were sent directly to members

(If I’m wrong about any of that, please let me know and I apologize for any errors in advance.)

That is not good communication

I just checked the August newsletter and there was nothing about the 5 application pause in it. Here are all the topics:

On the website, in the Blog section, there is summary of what has been discussed that month on the Forum (Community Forum: August round-up | TrustedHousesitters.com), with sections such as ‘Topic of the Month’ and ‘Category of the month’ - although in the August one, the subject of the ‘5 application and pause test’ wasn’t mentioned, and I’d have though that it was the most hotly debated topic!

There is, however, a link under the last section - ‘Related topics’ which is an article by Ben from the 22nd July about the test - Pausing owner applications: An update from Product Manager, Ben Cottrell | TrustedHousesitters.com

I have never received a newsletter since joining. Please THS, don’t insult me by sending me a renewal notice as it isn’t going to happen, you’ve lost me permanently after the current subscription expires. Not that you would care too much I think. So sad, I really loved your site before this and recommended it to so many.

Hello everyone… we are keen to keep this thread on topic and relevant to the responses from Ben that specifically relate to the end of the test period and upcoming adjustments.

As mentioned now across several posts, a full communication plan is in place for this announcement and it will be implemented in due course. To compare to past communications during a test phase may be confusing to others joining this thread and so we are drawing a line on this particular line of discussion.

Similarly if you are not receiving newsletters or email communications this is something that needs to be checked with membership services. If you need help with this please don’t hesitate to message one of us on the forum moderation team or email support@trustedhousesitters.com

Thanks for your help in keeping this thread relevant to the post test period.

This is a bit patronising, it has to be said - telling about a single member’s happiness.

Oops, I was typing my reply to Andrew and posted shortly after your comment about the “full communication plan in place” so pardon me if I posted inappropriately.

However, as there was no communication to all members about the test when it began and was ongoing, I’m concerned about how well the “full communication plan” will be implmented.
