That a homeowner doesn’t confirm is pure nuts. We do immediately after verbally offering the sitter the job, and request they confirm as soon as they get the THS offer. (Once we had a sitter dawdle and finally accept. Then she cancelled a few days before the sit.
If a sitter doesn’t confirm, then we’d have no insurance and no help from THA if the sitter cancelled. Plus, applicants would continue to apply who’d we have to turn down, which would discourage these sitters to applying next time!
Once we had a sitter take a long time to formally accept, and then she cancelled just days before the sit. Looking back, we kind of figured she wasn’t sure she wanted the sit, and that maybe she was waiting on a different opportunity.
I guess the same could be said for a homeowner who doesn’t officially offer the job. If we are not sure, we don’t offer. That seems they obvious course of events!
I would have agreed. Except these guys were genuinely keen (sat for them before) but really struggle with the app, so thought what they had done already was a confirmation. They were most apologetic and in the end they got there.
But you’re right, had I not already known them, then I might have doubted their commitment/interest.
Yes this happened to me and I learned from a few homeowners who told me “THS told me you were looking for a sit in my area” and its not true at all. I found it to be misleading for them and completely blowing up my Inbox…I got as many as 10 in one day. I complained about this new feature but so far nothing has been done to stop it. I would like to opt out…. And I feel horrible for these homeowners who take the time to write me a personal note and I simply cannot respond to all of them I don’t have time with my job and other life responsibilities to respond to these 5 to 10 per day!! So it ends up looking like I am ghosting them. They are for random dates and places….some very last minute which I will never make it to!!! Its very very frustrating. I tried to respond to a few homeowners who say I heard you were looking for a sit in my area to tell them that simply isn’t true and to mention to THS that the future is not working and it’s a waste of their time to send random invites
I think the problem is with the advertising. Home owners seem to think there is a huge number of pet sitters in their area patiently waiting to be invited to do a local sit. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most of us are booked months in advance and we go to places we want to go to rather than being ‘chosen’ for somewhere we’ve never considered.
Wow no I wish. I think there is a shortage of 2026 sits advertised I am looking for Spain and there is very little. I wonder do pet owners find a sitter they use once and happy with them - they keep going back to them to ask to sit again? I’m not sure though.
USA and UK, lots of sits, everywhere else more sitters keen for opportunities than sits available is my take on it. If there are 10,000 sits available usually 9,500 approximately will be in those two areas and the rest spread over the rest of the world.
Hi thanks for response , Yes or maybe they have their own version of THS because they have to have same need as the rest of us. Spain and Portugal are not small. Someday I’ll go to US
I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that the team have made an update to this feature, and it’s now hidden, so you shouldn’t have this issue any more.
