That wasn’t what I meant. I meant that I don’t think what THS does – accept people as members when they pay up to join – constitutes “vetting.” If I have a friend or relative watch my pets I’ve known that person a long time and that’s why I trust them. If I hire a sitter a friend recommended, that’s a solid reference. If hire a sitter through Steve and Edie’s Pet Daycare/Walking/and Drop In Service, then Steve and Edie know that sitter and vetted that sitter before they hired them. I don’t automatically trust a sitter or a host just because they are members. I look at the listings and profiles. I read applications. I read reviews. I pay attention at video chats. If I’m making a choice it will often come down to logistics and who has the edge in trust.
Awh yes brilliant cuttlefish thanks we are on the same page here i prefer swift replies ive decided to forget the email part. When you go on your messages its very kind when the HO explains their situation thats respectful. I even got a big thank you for the charity work i do just nice tc
Oh yes thats sounds good marion. The pet services you mentioned i must google them sounds more complex then TH thanks and of course people you know if they have time an can manage of couse just perfect tc
Uh, I didn’t mention any real pet service to look up. It was just an example of the type of small business that might send sitters – not an online app but the type of “mom and pop” operation you might see where there is doggy daycare, I was just trying to compare how a company like that would vet sitters as opposed to THS that doesn’t vet sitters or homeowners.
THS is not like any pet care businesses because it is NOT a pet care business. Its business is matching sitters and petparents. So both sides need to get to know each other in some way and feel comfortable. I do both sitting and hosting. As a petparent I’m not going to just “trust” someone with my pets and home because they paid money to join THS. As a sitter, I wouldn’t expect an owner to trust me automatically because I use the app.
I don’t know if you are a member of THS or just here exploring. But if you are thinking of joining, you won’t automatically get sits because you’ve been “vetted” by THS. It’s not like a job where they give you assignments. You’ll see posted sits and you can apply, and petparents will choose the sitter that is a good fit for them.
Are you a THS sitter? What have your experience been like?
What do you mean that you’ve “decided to forget the email part”? Please don’t send applications with no personal intro message. 95% of those will just be auto declined. You need to make your application thoughtful, personal and relevant to that particular sit you want in order to be successful. #devilisinthedetail
Hey everyone
Just popping on to remind you all about our guidelines around kindness and respect, as we’ve had to moderate some replies due to their tone.
Our forum is a place where all voices are valued, and that includes accommodating different communication styles.
If you find yourself struggling to understand someone’s communication style, I encourage you to approach it with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Ask questions if needed, and remember that misunderstandings can often be resolved through respectful dialogue. Ultimately, you can choose not to respond if you feel that the interaction isn’t working for you.
If you feel like someone’s question won’t get the support it needs here, you can also refer them to Membership Services like you do on other discussions.
It’d be great if we could get back on topic and not treat someone else’s communication style as a form of entertainment.
Thanks to everyone that’s answered in good faith so far.
