Favourite moments from your pet sits

Hi everyone,
I’d love it if some of you fellow pet sitters could share your happiest moments from pet sits.
Or if you’re a pet owner, some particularly wonderful experiences with pet sitters you really appreciated.

I’m a pet sitter and my loveliest experience has been meeting a sweet little dog and her lovely owner. We have all become friends and I have done 4 sits for them, and 2 more planned.

@andrealovesanimals gee that’s a really hard one! Every time I go to a new sit, those pets become my “new favourite” lol Can’t keep saying that on my reviews as HO’s will think I simply say that to be nice but it’s true! Each and every one just keeps getting added to my long list of favourites :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::kangaroo:

@ziggy
That’s great! I have lots of new favourites too, but selected that one pet sit as it’s been my most frequent one.

Watching the python I was looking after for about a month a number of years ago shed her skin at the start of my sit. Something not everyone gets a chance to see and was an incredible experience for me.

Oh wow! What an incredible experience @anon33996360 :snake::blush:

@anon33996360 That sounds very special all right. I’d love to try pet sitting reptiles, but don’t think I could stomach feeding them insects, etc. I quite like snakes, had one on my arm once and it was super friendly!

Thankfully I didn’t need to do the feeding during my stay but I did need to mist it every day. It was getting hungry by the time I left so every time I entered the bedroom it would move into the hunting pose haha

@anon33996360
That’s wild. You’re very brave!

I actually wasn’t in the house for my favorite moment, but my spouse was. We were warned that Jamie the cat sometimes brought in live prey. By the last day of a short sit we still hadn’t been gifted. My spouse had to work remotely. I did a little clean up and walked to the village store to pick up snacks and enjoy our final morning. The better half called asking where the net was. Jamie had brought in a bird. He improvised and managed to collect the bird, shocked but not wounded, take him outside and watch him fly into the bushes. Of course once back inside he gave Jamie a treat and praised his hunting prowess.

I’ve been minding a lovely Breton Spaniel who was rescued by its kind owner as an undernourished pup. Freddi has issues with children and strangers who approach suddenly. He brings his sad history with him to this day although he is improving.
He loves the dog park and generally is happy with a band of dogs. We visit one regularly and there were quite a few dogs all at once. He felt overwhelmed and sought me out. I was sitting at a nearby bench . He leapt into my arms for a reassuring cuddle! Such a magic vote of confidence! I’ve only known him a week but yes I’m trusted lol

I just posted this but I will share it here at well.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

**Hey everyone!

I just wanted to share some love for my hosts! This is my fourth time with this lovely couple! Every time I arrive, they send a sweet text letting me know they’re on their way out, and I’m greeted with a little note and a thank-you gift. Usually a gift card to the local grocery store-my heart melts at their thoughtfulness! It really makes me feel appreciated!

Their home is absolutely gorgeous—spacious, spotless, and so comfortable. The bed is enormous; it feels like I’m swimming just to get out of it! The kitchen is fully equipped, which makes it easy to whip up any meal. They even provide special instructions for some appliances to help keep everything in top shape. At one point I texted them to ask for the location of some extra blankets because we hadn’t discussed the use of their thermostat -their house was freezing! They IMMEDIATELY called me to insist that I make myself comfortable and noted that they have a very efficient climate control system for their home. How thoughtful is that?

The location is perfect, right near attractions, gyms, and stores. And handing off keys is super easy. They’re also generous with what’s in the fridge; I’m free to help myself to any fruits, meats, or leftovers—they’re such great cooks!

I settled in quickly and felt at home almost immediately. Communication has been fantastic; I always keep my phone close in case there’s a package delivery or if they need something. I send them nightly updates—like when I bring in the mail, take out the trash, or even a photo of a happy plant!

I just want to express my gratitude to all the hosts out there who create such welcoming spaces. It really shows what being part of this community is all about!**

I didn’t mention any pets because he passed away but they wanted someone to be there incase anything happened.

This made me smile. It’s a fact I walk a lot more when I’m on a sit with an energetic dog! They bring out the best in me! How to walk a Human. A dog’s guide. Note the use of apostrophe for possession. Lol

Choosing the right partner is so important. Here’s some great advice!

Well Gus has decided to move into my bedroom on day 3 .. guess we are serious!

This is a special moment on my present housesit. The cat and dog are both affectionate towards me. The dog has totally bonded and follows me everywhere. At bedtime the cat heads for its own kingsize in the Master bedroom. In the morning the cat joins us once I’m awake. The cat and dog rarely fight. The dog, deep down , is jealous of my five minutes giving the cat attention, so I have to pet both ! The cat gets special me time when it’s dark and the lights are off. I can surreptitiously stroke the cat without the dog realizing. The cat, in the dark, loses all inhibitions and nuzzles me in the face and really getting close. It’s a very treasured moment.. it’s not all about the dog but shhh.. We don’t want to stir sleeping dogs!

If we are on the sofa and I pet the cat too long Winnie will start a low growl which can end in a snap! She will then charge the cat off the sofa so she can enjoy my undivided attention! Happy families!

Had to laugh this morning. The cat is very independent and often gets out with the dog when the door is open, or she could take herself off to the King size bed in the master bedroom for the day if the weather is grim. Well this morning she was out without me realizing. That was until I saw her scratching at the patio window to be let in immediately! Words are so often superfluous! Body language is the way to go!

I’m sitting three indoor/outdoor cats with a cat door that I open once daylight arrives, so they can come and go as they please. Then they return before nightfall and I shut the door, so they get dinner and they’re safe from critters like raccoons and maybe coyotes, which tend to roam at night. The funny thing is, the cats often instead sit by the sliding glass doors or French doors, waiting to be let in. So I’ll sometimes look over and there’s a cat just staring at me, waiting on me to wait on them.

This cat, “ Missy” , knows what it’s like to be out so the better option is sitting on a fleecy blanket and staring outside the window to check on the outside world. Much more comfortable viewing from this great vantage point.

The dog has been out and got drenched above and below! She loves long grass and puddles so has to be dried with a big bath towel! She’s basically a black sponge! Then she loves to be tightly

wrapped in a blanket next to me on the sofa! Home comforts!

Just completing this sit and wanted to share two lovely moments that got me laughing with Winnie. The first is how she sits right close as I enjoy my dessert of blueberries and natural yoghurt.. she is transfixed and licking her lips in virtual consumption! I have to talk her down and remind her she has had her tea already! Shes now pressing against my arm! It’s the same when I had coffee at the club she jumped up on my lap all wet from the recent walk ( Bhutto never mind!) and sniffs at the potential biscuit wrapper, completely blocking my view of my refreshment! Food is so clearly her GOD.

Winnie is so intuned to human company I knew it would grieve her to see me packing and putting my cases in the car.. Winnie wanted to be involved every step of the way in the home cleaning process, packing my bags and loading the car. As I finished, in the dark, Winnie jumped in the passenger seat whilst I was busy at the back.. suddenly I was aware of a moving black shape.. “ Winnie! How did you get in there!”

Just hope the neighbours don’t think I’ve turned dog knapper.

I’ve asked the owners when they clone her to get me one too!

This dame will take some beating! Ha ha! Bless her! An unforgettable joy.

My favorite of three cats I just finished repeat sitting is skittish and it was so sweet as she warmed to me, eventually jumping onto my lap and making biscuits, then climbing up further to nestle against my neck and purr. And she did that even though one of the other cats was jealous and tried to tackle her at various points, as a show of territorialness. I so wanted to take the skittish nuzzler home with me. Miss her already.

I tend to have recency bias with sit pets, though. And I love them all and would happily visit them again if time and money weren’t considerations.
