Fear of making an honest 'negative' review

@Angela_L do you email that info via this forum or via THS website?

I tried this ā€“ went to the profile of a previous sitter ā€“ and I can see reviews HOs wrote about the sitter but CANNOT find how to see reviews that the sitter wrote.

Can someone tell me how to find reviews written by both HOs and sitters?

IIRC you can only do this on the phone app, not the website. kinda weird (and annoying) that the two platforms have such different functionality.

Thank you for your response.

This functionality should be on the website, as well. We donā€™t use the app.

Actually, you can see the reviews on the website as well. That post I had written long ago, was later responded to by the tech people to say it was now possible again.

On the website, you go to a sit posting, scroll down to the reviews (assuming theyā€™ve had previous sitters), and if the sitter is still an active member, their name will be clickable. When you click on their name, you can see the corresponding reviews that each home owner has made for them as well.

The difference with the app is that it will show sitters who did NOT leave a review, which can be a red flag if there are a lot of them.

On the website, a sit will show all the reviews that have been made but it doesnā€™t show sitters names who left no reviews. On the app, you can see the name of every sitter whoā€™s been there, whether they left a review or not.

Therese - I received the email and responded a few days ago with my issue (canā€™t leave a review for my previous sit that had an issue, the sit has seemingly has disappeared from my dashboard?).

I do not believe that the fact I didnā€™t complete the sit should render me unable to leave a review - as I feel I should leave ā€˜honestā€™ feedback for future prospective sitters.

So in case anyone has been following my situation - Iā€™m now being told by membership services that I cannot leave a review of my last sit as I left upon on arrival (when I found the place like a tip!) Apparently I cannot leave a review as I cancelled the sit!?!?!

> "Reviews and Feedback, are only available to be written on the completion of any sit. "

So basically if any of you lovely members out there were to apply for this HOā€™s future listings you would never know this? - HOW IS THIS RIGHT?? He has several NON reviewers and when I got in touch directly with a previous sitter (the one right before me) that did not leave a response, this is the message back I received:

ā€œyeah, definitely not the cleanest place, but it sounds like you found it in MUCH worse condition than I didā€¦ so sorry to hear that.ā€

However the HO has received reviews when previous sits were cancelled so that goes against what I am now being told by Membership Services:

I have had about three sits in the last year which really were not as they should have been & I felt taken advantage of/misled amongst other things. I think prior to that I had about one which really wasnā€™t as it should of been, but I was a younger sitter then so donā€™t think I really recognised it for what it was in the way I would do now.

It happened to me. I left a tempered, civil and factual negative review, and got slammed back with an inflammatory retaliatory review for me after I left mine, which basically ruined my reputation as a homeowner. I have since downgraded my subscription to sitter only. I did this with complete confidence because I know myself to be an extremely conscientious, considerate, and responsible person. And, now I am paying cat sitters instead of using TH for the benefit that it could be offering.

They need to change this process. I see that the discussion of suggestions to do so has been going on for a year. I donā€™t know if it will help me, but it will help others.

We take the other or cowards route. If the sit was less than perfect we donā€™t review. I am (almost ) a full time sitter and love this way of life and wonā€™t or canā€™t let a potential vindictive pet owner ruin my reputation.
I know Iā€™m doing other sitters a disfavour but it wonā€™t change till the review system becomes blind and neither review gets published until both are written. Sorry.

What a shame. It really is time the review system was sortedā€¦.

Do you make sure you get a review from the HO first? When I posted my only 4 star review, I waited for them to review me first.

No never. If I can tell the truth I do a review. If I canā€™t I donā€™t review. If I could do them blind I would review everyone. I have been very lucky, which I didnā€™t realise till I started reading threads on the forum, I can count on one hand, probably two fingers, the bad sits we have done. Yet again my word is communication. Thatā€™s what I put it all down to.

I must say, Iā€™ve not really had a bad sit. The 4 star review I gave was because of uncleanliness and not being upfront about the strength of the dog.

This post has so many entries I didnā€™t go back to see if this was already posted this, but hereā€™s an article:

For fear of retaliation, I wonā€™t review one place because I literally canā€™t say anything nice.

FWIW Iā€™m also a teacher on an online homeschool platform, and the review system is broken there too (although differently - but itā€™s so messed up that teachers just advise each other to just cancel a class if a problem kid enrolls, as thatā€™s the only way to have any control over who attends a class and leaves bad reviews.)
