Feeling lost and confused about timing

I move on within 48 hours if hosts don’t reply to schedule a video meeting.

By contrast, a reply of simply acknowledging receiving my application is useless to me — I already know whether they saw my application, because of THS functionality.

This is exactly why I don’t message applicants until I either plan to invite them to video chat or decline them. This sitter will withdraw an application within 2 days if not contacted, yet doesn’t want to receive a message confirming their app was received. This strategy of “pick me first or I’m out” doesn’t accomplish anything and has cost at least one sitter an opportunity to sit in a spectacular location.

As it happens, I get more sits than I can do, because I receive unsolicited invites, repeat invitations and referrals from hosts to other hosts, as well as successful applications. My approach works for me — I’m getting the sits I want.

Meanwhile, you’ve complained about how you’ve not been able to choose the right sitter, with only two THS sitter experiences and others who weren’t from THS. I don’t think you should be giving advice till you figure out things for yourself. And the way you described your part of the world — garbage and pothole strewn and full of people you denigrated — thanks, I’d never want to sit there.

Most sitters don’t enjoy your high level of success, it was to those sitters who can’t fill their calendars that I suggest withdrawing an application after 48 hours with no contact from the host accomplishes nothing and may very well cost them a sit in a very desirable location such ours where there many applicants to consider.

Doing so may give the impression that a sitter believes they’re so much better than the rest of the applicants they deserve to be picked first.

Even though @Maggie8K gets the sits she wants, she may very well be missing out on the really great ones such as ours, which naturally attract many applicants and further decrease the likelihood that she will be the first one invited to a video chat within 48 hours.

You’re forcing things and rewriting inaccurately. I said nothing about being first contacted, for instance. And you keep insisting that your sit is so great, which assumes a lot. Personally, my No. 1 priority is the hosts being good partners. There’s no great sit possible without that. And many sitters have expressed previously that they’d rather sit somewhere more modest than sit for hosts who aren’t good partners.

You also don’t seem to get that others decide whether your sit is great, not you. Just like sitters don’t get to declare they’re great unilaterally.

I know my sit is great because a) it just is because of all the reasons we were attracted to it, located on the side of a mountain overlooking the Saronic Gulf in the highly desirable area of the Peloponnese on mainland Greece near often sold out $400 per nite AirBnbs, b) by the hundreds of sitters who have favorited our listing and c) the high number of applicants we receive upon listing a sit which results in an applicant pause within an hour.

In your particular case, right you may look upon my property with utter disdain, tastes can vary but one thing is certain. You have applied for sits that were desirable to you. And you walked away from those sits because you were not picked within 48 hours reducing the probability of getting that sit to be zero. For no good reason, as I see it.

You don’t seem to have digested that sits aren’t about just location — sounds like you think your sit is equivalent to an Airbnb or hotel. Sits aren’t at all like that — they’re partnerships. And poor partners ruin sits, no matter the location.

Sure they do. You clearly believe that if a host doesn’t choose you within 48 hours of your application landing in their inbox they’re a poor partner. I disagree.

Again, you mischaracterize.

I will put you on ignore, since you can’t grasp what people write.

The same could be said for a sitter who deems a host to be poor partner and withdraws their application without ever exchanging a single word.

Newly joined yesterday. Was looking for Paris for me to sits but Is very hard to get a chance even apply for a sit. Supply is low and demand probably is high.. My apps doesn’t send me the notifications even I already switched on the function.

Welcome to the forum @Zhiyi

There is a delay in getting notifications of saved sits - these only get sent out once an hour - by which time others may have seen and applied .

You only joined yesterday so give it some more time - the most popular sits usually get filled by sitters who have many reviews .

My suggestion is to look for a local last minute sit near to you to get started . You will have more chance of getting that first sit and first review .

You could try looking for sits close to you that are just for one night - in one weekend you could get two sits and two reviews - that’s how friends of ours got started , so it does work .
