Hi @Twitcher and @MaggieUU - I tagged you in a helpful post that @KC1102 started last July ![]()
@Twitcher I think this is what you’re looking for For newbies on the forum - did you know you can block/ignore users and flag comments?
Thank you ![]()
I’ve got my fingers crossed that you find a sitter soon ![]()
I responded within 12 hrs.
Oof, that was a bit sharp
but fair enough!
In my defense, the message came in around 9 or 10 p.m., and I actually replied by the next morning at 10 a.m. So it wasn’t ghosting, I was just weighing the pros and cons even in my sleep ![]()
As a new homeowner on THS, I wanted to think things through properly like whether I should ask them about visa status, how my pet might do with a child, and whether the kid would be okay with my pet and so on.
That said, I completely get your point about quick communication. I’m learning the pace here.
Appreciate the insight.
Hello, thanks for your reply.
Just to be clear, the T&C refer to both pet owners and sitters with regards to the 72 hour timescale. It’s not something that we police, as we can’t enforce all members to reply within the timescale, it’s really there as best practice.
As can be seen in this discussion, everyone’s got their own way of doing things, some people move on after 48 hours and others are willing to wait longer.
Totally agree with you about communication. I get it now.
I actually got two more applications and have accepted one, and all the dates are sorted out!
Really appreciate your perspective! ![]()
Definitely not and definitely not.
Two month sits are quite in demand by traveling sitters and digital nomads. However, they also tend to plan their calendars months in advance. You are behind the curve on that front but circumstances change and, with patience, a good sitter seeking a longer stay may well pop up at anytime.
Demand for sitters is definitely higher over the holidays.
Fantastic news @Nyjezz . So that’s within 24 hours of listing ?
You can mark this thread as solved .
Ah, I see… well, this was meant for one particular case: the OP. They started a topic about their situation, relevant to them.
My apologies if, for whatever reason, you thought this was intended for you… it wasn’t.
I never thought your reply was intended for me, I interpreted it as a general comment about hosts and their communication with sitters, and I was offering my opinion which was that every situation is different. No offense taken!
Sure thing, happy to help.
I think this is the first time one of my posts got marked as a solution!

Thank you ![]()
I agree with you @Twitcher
I have used it twice and life is now less stressful!!![]()
@Twitcher just reading this confusing thread, I can tell the “mute” I applied a few days ago is working for me! Go for it, save your sanity ![]()
I think it is discourteous not to contact every sitter within 48 hours, or earlier. I usually contact everyone within a few hours. I don’t tell them that they’re not number one. That would be rude. I just say “thanks for your application. I have a few good prospects and will contact you again in a day or two” or something equally vague.
Some sitters don’t think it’s necessary to do this, but I think the vast majority of sitters, especially older ones, are bothered when their application isn’t acknowledged. As a sitter, I’m in that category (old and bothered!)
Good to know, thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I’ll generate a phrase along those lines so applicants won’t feel ignored.
Very useful re the mute option, I’m getting similar flak on another thread…
Hear Hear !
(Not seen as a complete sentence so here’s this)
