Hi Brindle. Please excuse previous typos. I do not use the TH app either. I do know that messages on the website do always say read when they have been, prior to receiving any reply. I am assuming wherever they are read it will always show up on the website on a laptop. But regardless owners are supposed to reply within 72 hours. There are a few who never reply, which to me is jiust bad manners.
Iâve done some case study research myself. ![]()
Conclusions:
If itâs taking too long, it doesnât make a difference wether sitter writes a follow up message or not. It also doesnât make a difference whether sitter withdraws applications (with or without a message).
I agree I would not sit for those people.
However, I have found that they are not necessarily inconsiderate or entitled.
Part of this âresearchâ is following up sits I have done or I have confirmed. Sometimes they are in reviewing mode for ages. In fact, that is the case with my current sit. They are lovely easy going hosts. They have been in reviewing mode for more than two months for dates soon after my sit ends. I think they just changed their plans and completely forgot about it. We communicate on WhatsApp so they probably donât check the app. They did answer my application promptly and we confirmed the sit four months in advance.
Iâve done 15 sits now. Every one of the HOs responded within a couple of hours. Most asked for a video chat, but at some point during it when I nervously asked if they were seriously considering me, the reply was along the lines of âOh, youâve got the job already! We just wanted to get to know you a bit..!â
Itâs been my experience that if you donât get a response within 24 hours, they donât want you. Or theyâre waiting to see if someone better comes along, which is the same thing in my book. At that point, I generally withdraw.
But Iâm sure other sitters have had different experiences..
