If a sitter is actually asking you to cancel them so they can take another sit, you don’t have much of a choice, but you should report the sitter as they should not be doing that. Sits are only supposed to be cancelled on either side for an “extraordinary” reason. You won’t be able to review the sitter, but supposedly THS will monitor the sitter in case their are more complaints.
Some of us (me) have complained on these threads that THS doesn’t normally track cancellations and pet parents rarely report sitters for cancelling, so there may be a lot of highly rated sitters are cancel hop. There is no way to know how big or how small the problem is without data. A slick sitter might also lie about the reason and tell you that they are canceling for another reason.
Just to be clear, I sit too! As a homeowner, I only had one sitter out of 10 or 11 cancel a confirmed sit, so I don’t think the numbers are that high. But that sitter lied about the reason and took another longer sit which I found out about because I later saw the review on her page. I don’t think this happens often, but it is unfortunate that THS puts HOs in the position of needing to report or police sitters on this.
100%. Been a sitter for over 5 years , nearly 100 5 star reviews never cancelled a confirmed sit but withdrew lots of applications for numerous reasons. We are all people with different lives, needs, beliefs, circumstances etc, who knows why people withdraw applications …but once confirmed 100% committed will not let anyone down
How else will they know unless they are reported ? The same for sitters when a homeowner cancels the sit ( not for an exceptional circumstance) THS don’t know unless the sitter reports it .
How do i do that? What is MS?
To whom do i report them?
“I realised it was not me or my listing”.

There is no way they will know. I think that’s unfortunate. I’ve posted in other threads that I think that whenever there is a cancellation it should be tracked in some way regardless of the reason. I think THS should be exploring the reasons for cancellations and whether or not the can be reduced since this impacts both sitters and homeowners greatly.
Sometimes one party might give a good reason for cancelling – for instance a sitter becomes ill and the homeowner accepts this and doesn’t report it. However, it could turn out a month later that the Homeowner notices the sitter is reviewed having done a different sit during those dates.
Theorectically, if the HO accepted the reason at face value, the sitter could go on doing this on a regular basis.
A HO could find out that their favorite sitter is available after all and cancel the sitter they have, but tell him the sit is cancelled because a pet is having a health crisis. A homeowner could habitually cancel sitters and not be “caught” because THS will only monitor based on reports.
Very well said. Totally agree
I am surprised that people are canceling unless they are not legal residents of US, your place is US?
