I don’t like very brief applications from sitters. There are a few things I specifically want to know in an application - what is their experience with my type of pet, why do they want to be in my area and what is it that appeals to them about my sit. I don’t live in a very popular destination (although I always find good sitters), so I want to know that the sitter is really serious and won’t cancel for a better offer.
I could fit all of that into one or two paragraphs as you have done…
Wow! Thanks everyone for great advice. I will definitely make my application shorter, I will add something about my cats care as I have 2 very trustworthy neighbors who care for them for trips less than a week. I will offer to meet in person in advance for local sits and mention that I also have a homeowner profile. I have been only applying in Southern California and for short sits for now because that is what my current schedule will allow. I had trouble figuring out how to add my link to my profile. I followed the instructions but it just says, paste your link. I was looking for a field for that but didn’t see one so I just pasted it into the About Me section. Was that right?
So many thanks!!!
Eva
Thanks! Great suggestions. My availability right now is a little limited so I have been applying to any short sits I can find but I will keep looking for the less popular ones that I can do.
Thanks so much!!
Those are 2 great points about focus! Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for the feedback! I do have a sitter scheduled at my house for October but that will be my first. I have good care for my cats for short trips from 2 neighbors so I can easily let people know that. Thanks again!
Big News! I just accepted my first sit! It is for a short one about an hour’s drive from my house. I am so pleased and excited to meet her lovely kitty. Thanks everyone for all of your help! I still intend to make improvements to my application letter based on all the excellent suggestions that I received! Thanks again! Eva
That’s wonderful news @Eva22. Enjoy that lovely kitty and your first sit.
Congratulations! May you never have to come to the forum again for either advice or problems.
Best of luck with your sit @Eva22
please let us know how it goes!
