My name is Patrick. My wife and I love animals, travel, and caring for homes as if they were our own. We travel to New York regularly and are excited to be part of the TrustedHousesitters community.
We understand how important trust, communication, and consistency are when it comes to caring for pets and homes. Animals are family, and we take that responsibility seriously. Looking forward to learning from this group, connecting with fellow sitters and homeowners, and hopefully sharing some great experiences along the way.
Welcome to the forum @Patrick469, I hope you pick-up a lot of good information here, it can be a wealth of information when used correctly. Feel free to ask anything at all. The forum is open to everyone not just last minute sit requirements, it’s an open forum. You are very welcome here.
Hi there, there was a thread here a while ago that invited newbies to introduce themselves, it got very long! You could search for it using the spy glass.
It’s tough being a newbie, I remember it well! The App and website aren’t the easiest to navigate. I would read 100s of threads as I attempted to get to grips with the tech also the THS processes before our first sit. This Forum is incredibly helpful when you’re starting out, and occasionally it offers useful support if the matching service goes wrong between paid up members. Best wishes as you clamber over all the THS hurdles towards your first sit
Hi Patrick. Welcome. Members can’t look up your profile (or member listing) directly through the forum. There is a way to link your profile, although someone else or maybe AI can help you with the steps. I think that’s only allowed if you are looking for help on writing your profile though!
If you are looking for NYC in particular, I have some tips for finding an NYC sit, and I think I’ve mentioned them on a long ago thread. I’ll see if I can find it or I might start another one. (I live in NYC but have no immediate travel dates.)
Welcome @Patrick469 you will find a lot of useful information here on the forum. Before you post a question you might like to do a search to see if it’s been asked before. I love the drawing. Are you the artist? Some artistic housesitters leave a portrait of the pet(s) they sit for, which always goes down well with the owners!
Good luck, but there’s no guarantee you’ll get a sit in New York!
@Patrick469 Perhaps clarify whether you are solely a member of this (free) forum, or also have a paid membership to the TrustedHousesitters website. If you are only a member on the forum, there isn’t a way to apply for sits here, so that would cause confusion for anyone. If you are a paid member, then spending time using the help section on the main website might be a good place to start. You can also use the search function here (top right, left of the three bars), searching key words concerning your questions.
I am in many Facebook groups and I would say 70% of them ask or suggest that you introduce yourself to the group and tell everyone a little about yourself. I see this is exactly what @Patrick469 has done, introduced himself to the Forum. The original post questioning this was removed thank goodness.
Yes I am member. I apologize for not understanding how this all works. I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m still not sure how to apply to sits. Being transparent and asking for help always seems to make sense. Thank you for your insight.
