HO Guide not Shared, Address not Disclosed

So… you do your holiday planning last minute, without knowing the address or practical details of your accommodation and location…cause that’s essentially what’s expected here? Or is this expectation only one-sided?

Great minds think alike…

In recent weeks, this banner/message was added for hosts after a sit is booked as part of the homeowner landing page development.

This is a great idea! I hope THS is going to track how many owners immediately click on “Share Welcome Guide” the first time they see this.

My bet is that the number will be very low.

It would be nice if owners would review and update their Welcome Guide even before they post the dates for a new sit, but alas, this is not usually how humans operate.

This is a VERY BAD aspect of THS. Sitters should be able to cancel a sit and let the chips fall, however they may.

I agree. If technically required before publishing, human errors or disorganization would have minimal impact…Reminders only has a way of simply ending as spam

They also need to update the details on their profiles. I see icons for the number/type of pet which don’t tally with the written detail -pets have either died or increased. The ages of pets in the profiles are often out of date too, showing them as considerably younger than the age given in the photo at the bottom of the profile. The title of the posts eg ‘spend Christmas in such and such a place’ are also at times in need of changing when the dates required are not at Christmas! I don’t understand why owners don’t attend to these details.

Yes, I noticed this all the time and it definitely influences my decision as to whether or not I apply. I’m very detailed and accuracy focused so it tends to put me off.

What annoys me is that I’ll start to read something, get part way through when I realise that the sites not for me because the icons indicate 1 dog but in reality there is now an extra one, a puppy which requires a lot of attention and clearing up after - for example.

A sitter who can’t get a host to share a welcome guide well ahead of a sit (or a host who won’t share one well ahead) is essentially risking needless surprises that might end up as dealbreakers last minute.

Personally, I mention during video chatting that I won’t book travel or make plans to sit without a WG (I don’t care if it’s via THS or not). I’ve never had trouble getting the address, either.

My hosts logically share all such info, because presumably they want me to show up. No one — any host or THS — can force any sitter to turn up. All sitters have the same agency. Whether they exercise it is up to them.

Sitters should consider: If a host won’t give you key info when you have the greatest leverage, how likely are you going to be able to uphold boundaries, etc., after you’ve spent time, effort and probably money to get to their home? You’d be walking in blind and the host is more likely to think they can treat you however they like.
