My partner and I have had three wonderful experiences with this site while traveling, but we’re hitting a bit of a wall trying to find a sitter for our upcoming stay for mid-December- January.
We’ve had several sitters say that our home (in a walkable neighborhood of Colorado Springs) and our pups look like a great stay, but so far, no takers!
For a little more context, our dates are flexible, and our two dogs are pretty low-maintenance, goofy companions. They’re happy hanging out at home for long stretches, so sitters have plenty of freedom to get out and explore everything Colorado has to offer.
So I’m turning to the THS community for a little insider intel. What makes a sit really stand out to you? What are the things that make you excited to apply or say yes? Are the holidays just a particularly tough time to find a match?
We’re all ears for any tips or insight. Help us crack the sitter-search code! (And of course, if you’re looking to stay in Colorado for the holidays, check out our listing!)
We are full-time digital nomads, so the longer and easier the sit, the better. The x-mas sit we chose is 50 days in a gorgeous location, for example. We also aim for start and end dates on weekends so we don’t have to miss any work for a transition. We only take sits where we can be away from the pet for 6 hours or longer. And ones where we are allowed to invite guests over for a holiday meal and to stay the night.
You may also want to post your listing here so the forum can give you feedback.
I appreciate that insight! I hadn’t thought about the weekend arrivals/departures. Our pups can stay home alone for up to 8 hours + we wouldn’t mind guests, so I will add those to our listing.
I am not in USA so can only comment as a foreigner looking on, but your sit looks ideal to me. Whilst I love holiday season sits, I know this is the busiest time of year for sitters who have families, and are otherwise occupied. I think you will find someone, and I really hope that you do.
