HOs Please disclose your outdoor cameras in your listing

100 % with you on that. I will never sit for anyone who thinks that they have the right to film me.

I don’t routinely check my ring doorbell. It set to ping only if someone comes to the door and rings bell. Everything else is a big whatever if someone in the house caretaking. I also give them access.

That being said…,I might contact my sitter if I saw a big old critter…… WTF ACTIVITY on Instagram: "Thank God Australia is surrounded by water (Via: @TerrifyingFlix)"

( ps- :australia:… while solely a HO now- I did a year long house sit in Marybyrnong (Melbourne) about 25 years ago with 50 courtyard pot plants and lot of very large furry garden spydas… it was super fun, loved caring for home and plants and GREAT experience.)

We have sat multiple times for a home with multiple outdoor cameras but the HO’s gave us access to the app so we can see what they can see.
This seems like a reasonable request from sitters to HO’s.
We had to be careful bc our conversations outside were also being recorded and these people are the type to listen in.
Not that we have things to hide but discussions, conversations, especially between my husband and I can include private and personal matters, of course. So, we had to be mindful of this at all times, which could get exhausting.
Just the same, getting access to the cameras felt better than not.

@Halifax23 it’s not the furry spiders you have to worry about here in Australia, it’s the drop bears!

@Crookie - yep! That’s why every good Aussie carries an emergency jar of Vegemite around

I had to google “drop bear” but I was glad to get the vegemite part.

I want to make Sitters aware there are security systems that have motion detectors that have integrated cameras! A past sit the HO didn’t turn off the cameras that were hard wired into the wall- no outlet when we arrived and we asked them to. After denying they knew how to after they left they disabled them. But a couple of times they made comments that made us uneasy like there were still watching.

We eventually found the motion detector w camera. Here is a photo. Separate from the Ring cameras. We threw a hat over it.

Another thing we did was get black suction cups and stuck them to the glass. Problem solved!

Last bit of advise- home owners with these systems can listen in either through a Ring camera at the front door when you go in and out, Alexa system or the ring cameras indoor / outdoor. So always be cognitive of what you say or do… just a condition of our world and connected homes.

We just arrived at a repeat sit and the HOs said “you turned the camera around last time so we’ve unplugged it.” Great, thanks very much. You know you can get thrown off THS for having internal cameras don’t you? Them, “yes but it wasn’t ever/isn’t on” (totally trust them, I think they were a bit baffled we thought they’d watch us in the first place). Anyway. Open chat, all solved. #commscommscomms

What are the suction cups for?

Blocking the camera lens… just in case the HO decides to remote in…. won’t see anything.

Gives peace of mind.

As a HO i have external cameras for security and insurance requirements. internal cameras would be turned of during any sit and I don’t consider this unreasonable. Its a bit disconcertingly to read comments that suggest HO might be voyeuristic, trust goes both ways.
