A shot-gun shack, bungaloo or house is a house where if someone took a shot through the front door, the bullet would go out through the back door. So usually these are small homes where the front door and the back door are directly opposite each other.

You have done a good job on the list, but the 5 cats and short notice is a drawback. I hope you find someone. Maybe you can be flexible on dates if you have someone who can check on the cats at the start of end of your trip.

if you can be flexible, I would change the listing title to say thig, e.g. 'Flex dates cute hous…" No need to say “June in New Orleans”; we can see that already. If you can be flexible, you might attract sitters who have another sit that overlaps with yours at the start or end. They won’t be able to apply for this sit because of the overlap, but you could create a dummy sit for, say, January 1-2, 2026, and tell people to apply for that sit if they can’t apply for the real one.

I would love to sit in early 2026, when my niece is back at Tulane!

Oh that dummy sit idea is genius! I have often seen sits where if the owners would change the date by ONE day, I could do it. But that one day - which turns out, often, to be an “extra” day the host put in so they could show the sitter around and thus not even necessary for the pets - prevents me from contacting them in any way. I hope many homeowners see your post!

Thanks I’ve used that trick the last few times I have posted sits. I have one easy cat, so it’s no big deal if the sitter doesn’t arrive until a day later or leaves a day earlier. I make the dummy sit just one day, so nobody’s going to really be interested in it.

I think you just have to post early enough. I was looking for a sit in NO last winter in early Feb. I just kept looking and applying.
