We have delayed our pet sitter finding and I’m hoping there are sitters who have delayed house sit finding!
We are looking for a sitter to enjoy the Denver area over Thanksgiving. We have posted an ad and hope to find someone!
Also, is there a way to search for nomads who want to be in a specific area during select dates? I’m not sure if my pet sitter search is yielding the appropriate results.
Thanks all!
It also would be helpful to link your listing so sitters can see what the sit actually is.
And finally, no unfortunately there is no way to search for sitter location preferences. Sometimes sitters will update their home location to an area they want to be in, but it doesn’t happen commonly enough to be a reliable way of filtering for sitters. You can try to reach out to sitters that are local to you, but THS is better suited to sitters being the ones to initiate contact.
Although you can’t search for specific areas, the site’s algorithms are actually quite good in one way that I have found.
Two years ago, as a sitter I was putting specific towns into the search box, and as they were quite obscure, I wasn;t getting any listings for the town itself, but the site still showed me all the closest sits to that town.
About a week later, I got an alert for a sit in that town. It’s important to note that I had NOT saved this search. So the algorithm made a note that I had searched for that town in the past, and served it up. And I have sat for those people and pets many times since.
Sadly we don’t get those specific sit email alerts anymore. God knows why. We all complained when they removed them. They now just send us an alert with a link to the site. But not to specific sits. So I turned them off, and now I manually look when I want something.
But I do have saved searches for specific pets, places and dates. So don’t worry, the sitters will find you.
Make sure you add your listing to your profile page as @adelia suggests. So we can have a look and see if you missed anything that might be a factor.
Hi there,
While THS does have a search function to find sitters and send invites, most sits are secured through applicants. Sending invites is a laborious and often fruitless task that doesn’t often work out, because the likelihood of finding somebody both available & interested in your sit is very small and many sitters ignore or decline unsolicited invites. Rather, those that are keen to sit for you will find you if you have an attractive listing. Be sure to add your listing to your forum bio for us to view and help out.
Here’s how:
Here’s a blog that also might help:
Hope that helps!
For future reference, for the best experience with THS, make sure you post your dates (especially if they’re over a holiday) well in advance, at least a good few months. Most sitters come from abroad or a different area of your country and will need to make travel arrangements, possibly book flights & plan their sits in advance - especially if they’re a nomad!
