How do you plan for multiple sits in a new country?

I felt like that when we were in Nova Scotia in fall 2016. And kept looking at house prices compared to BC…

And the plot usually had at least ten acres of forest. What wasn’t to love.

BC plus 10 feet of snow.

Haha, yeah more snow. We get 2-3 feet hear each winter but more in NS.

Thank you all for such wonderful feedback, and information. I’m sorry I haven’t been on much the last couple of days. Sadly I appeared to have caught the bug that is going around the ship, so it’s really knocked me down, and I’ve been sleeping almost nonstop since. But I just wanted you all to know, I’m really grateful for your time and imput. And even new questions on the part, as it gives new things I didn’t think to ask. So thank you

Make sure you allow time to travel say from Scotland to Wales, and for the homeowner to get back before you leave. Never overlap!
Definitely look at how far apart sits are and leave enough time… Some homeowners like you to arrive the evening before they leave, and the dates start, so communication is key!
You can save a search in an area you are looking at which helps. Also many sits come up a few weeks before they leave,. Just as some are over a year in n advance…
Make sure the sit fits you
That you have the experience to not be overwhelmed… that you are comfortable with the communication and photos or zoom walk through before you accept…
On the last full day before we leave we make sure everything is perfect for the homeowners return…
Good luck!

Hi. I am a single sitter doing sits in UK onluy now and until ca. November. I have been in Uk since August 2020. I was ok. regarding sits until January last year. Then I did not have a a it untill April. But after that it has been going well. I try to organice my sits and many times it is a over lap. I was a lot in the south and then I had a base in Southampton at a great guest house. This year I have been very well booked and now I am almost fully booked untill November. When applying I try to have as few days possible and short distances between But some times it is overlapping and then not far from each other. I then contact both HO to see if it is possible for me to take both. That has worked fine for me and a few times I finish a sit and then start the next one the same day. If I have a break I try fo find a good place to stay at for an ight or two close to the next one. In some cases I have even been offered to come a day earlier. For me as a single sitter this has just worked out good.

Thanks So much, It was a doozy to say the least. Sadly after making it all the way through tha pandemic, multiple cross country flights, work lessen the covid protocols this year, and a scientist brought it on to the ship. Our ship is only 209ft, which people might think is big, but with 30+ people living aboard it’s pretty small. And once one person got sick, it spread like wild fire. There was a couple of days I could barely get my head off he pillow to even make it to the bathroom. I swear if I hadn’t been vaccinated and boosted, I have no doubt it would have killed me. Scary stuff really. But I’m getting better, most of the effects are almost gone now, except for he fatigue. So hopefully back to normal soon.

On a different note. WOOOHOOO! I’m a member now, I bet you and the other admins are happy about this, no more 10 pending messages.

Thank you for the Feedback. I’m starting to see that overlapping might not be the best things for me, since I’m traveling by myself. So I could travel to the next sit, get a airbnb/hotel maybe meet the family early, but I could use that time for site seeing too.

That’s good to know. I kinda started to see this in my search, while trying to plan, and there are some places for the end of the year, but most are for within the next few weeks.

This is the part I’m most nervous about to be honest, that I will feel overwhelmed. However I am very comfortable with communication, and asking questions. So I’m sure after a few sits, it will mostly go away.

You got it. This is something I have always done when house/pet sitting for friends and family, and will make sure to continue for the HO on here.

Thanks again for the info, and I can’t wait to share my adventures with everyone.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to give me some feedback on how things work for you. I’m sorry to hear that it sounds like you had a bump in the road last year, but I’m happy to read it picked back up for you.

That’s awesome, I have been looking at the amount of sits in the UK, and saw there are so many close together in some area, I can see where that would work. I’m just nervous starting out, with the overlapping, as I don’t want to short someone, trying to get to the next sit. I’m sure with time, the dance will become easier in that matter.

That’s is awesome, I would love to be able to do this.

This is great to hear, and thank you so much for sharing it with me.
