How do you settle in on your first night on a sit?

Lots of great points and tips here! Thank you!

Great idea of the category of Safety/Security for the review process.

Checking the bed before needing to use it is also a great idea! One time, the owner’s cleaners “forgot” to change the bed linens when they cleaned the house, just before we arrived. Not fun when you are tired after a long day of travel, and about to sleep, discovering the sheets were obviously unclean! The owner was mortified…

A new sitter could create a checklist using this thread!

It’d be great if new sitters could create a checklist using ideas from this thread @PVGemini :slightly_smiling_face: once there’s a few more replies I might collate some bullet points for any new sitters that might be reading

I need to add one item to my previous list: Add at least two local news sources to my news feed - a lesson I just learned!

I am at a sit right now and there was a water main break. This meant two major roads were closed AND the local water supply became (temporarily) unsafe to drink! I was blissfully unaware and only found out when I overheard some folks on the street talking about a baseball game I thought I might want to attend. When I went to look for the ballgame information online the water issue showed up on my news feed, complete with warnings that everyone had to boil their drinking and cooking water until further notice. I was lucky that I had only been drinking bottled drinks that day (unusual for me), but it made me realize that without a local news source, I might miss some key information.

I always join the local community fb group just temporarily- after I’ve agreed to sit and during the sit.
