How far in advance to post a sit

What is considered the ideal amount of lead time to post an upcoming sit to get the best applicants?

Welcome @CraigB. If you use the spyglass at the top of the page and type in How far in advance it will take you to responses to your question.
The question has been asked many times over the years but the general consensus seems to be it depends on location, how attractive your listing is, the length of sit and the responsibilities.

There is no ideal time, if you have your dates, post them.

Then it gives you the longest time possible to find the perfect sitter. We’re booked up for most of 2025, and even have a sit booked in for Dec 2026 (1.5 years ahead of time).

In our experience, a lot of pet owners post about 3 months ahead of their dates, but the ones that have been on the site for a long time, post as soon as they have their dates sorted, because they have the largest pool of good sitters to pick from then.

How far in advance to post your sit also can depen on how early others in your area tend to post. Experienced sitters, especially those who return to an area time and again, get used to the local timing, and start looking based on that timing.

For example, pet parents in the UK tend to start posting months in advance, whereas those in France post with just a few weeks notice. In many large and popular cities, like San Diego and San Francisco, listings get posted really close to sit start dates.

So, if you’re in an area that tends to post well in advance, you might want to too.
