Hello! I am Steffany from Montréal, Canada and am new. I was referred to TrustedHousesitters by a very close friend who experienced it and really enjoyed each of her sits. I was told that it is also possible to just house sit, if so how to get to it? This forum is very much appreciated, a great idea. Thanks.
Welcome to the forum @Steffany
If you become a Trusted House Sitter member you can search for sits with no pets -
However, these are few and far between.
For example today there are 7147 sits listed worldwide- only 5 of them are without pets.
If you want to just house sit, Trusted Housesitters is a misnomer. It really focuses on sitting pets in hosts’ homes. There are much better groups for house sitting alone, which you can search for via Google or social media.
Thank you, I am a member since 4 days ago only. I found a few interesting dog sitting so far, it is just a matter of findings date that works for both.
Have a great day
@silverpetsitter
Can you tell me how you find these numbers? I see people mention them but never understood how and where they find this info.
Bonjour @Steffany
Can you explain more what you are “confused” about? Do you mean you are wondering how to look for house sits that do not include pets?
If you ask some more questions we can assist you better.
When using the app, put Anywhere in Find a Sit. It shows 7185 right now. Then click on Sort and Filter, then No Pets, and there are only 4 live listings @carpediem16!
ohhhh, cool! I don’t use the app much to search for sits (only to follow up on application status, etc) as I’m usually checking from my laptop.
Thanks! I had never noticed that before.
Yes, we have had a house sit with no pets but they are very rare. And to be honest I was bored out my tiny little mind.
One less now. I reported a listing on THS because they wanted someone to fix up their deceased mother’s house so they could sell it in the summer, including handling viewings and making flower arrangements beforehand. Are they out of their minds? Unbelievable what some people expect.
Hi @Steffany,
Welcome to the wonderful world of house & petsitting. It’s true there are fewer house sits without pets but it’s worth having a search for only housesits, as well as other ones, so you can spot them quickly when they do come up. You can also do searches for sits with particular pets in mind. If you prefer cats then you can search for just cats or whatever pets you feel comfortable doing or have more experience in. Don’t be put off by farm animals, they are often easier than they sound! We have had some fabulous sits caring for chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, & alpacas. Experience is not always necessary & owners are pretty good at explaining what needs to happen. Have an explore of all the different kinds of sits through the search on the app. Hope you are soon enjoying your first sit.
Definitely wouldn’t be my cup of tea. A home without a pet(s) is just lacking for me.
I read that one too @Fatamorgana and thought you’ve got to be kidding!
Hello, thanks for your e-mail, I really appreciate your open mindedness and positivity. Thank you for your welcome.
My last sit was for a cat that had been feral, so it did all its business outside, no litter box to clean. And it had a cat door, so I didn’t even have to let it out and in. I just had to make sure it had water and food. Almost like no pet.
Thanks for the comment, very interesting, I will keep this in mid. Have a great day.
Thanks a lot, that really help.
I would like to know how long a head of time do owners advertise for a sitter? From what I have seen it is pretty close to the dates of the sitting. Leaving in Canada and being interested in sitting in Puerto Vallarta, I need time to prepare a holiday. Also do you know if it is possible when you are member to contact owners and ask them for exemple if they are planning a going away for next year?
No unfortunately. You can only contact an owner if they have a listing with open dates.
Unless of course, if you have had previous conversations via the messaging system.
You can make a listing a favourite, and then you will be notified if the HO posts new dates.
