Influencer? pictures?

This has been answered several times in this thread by other commentators. Not sure why you are doubling down in your responses. Regardless the HO is asking because they want to ensure privacy and not have their house/pets splattered all over social media without their permission. If you cant comply don’t accept the sit.

Your family wants to know where you’re staying, cant you just tell them? How do you know they won’t share the pictures/video?

Hi everyone!

I just had a look through some existing Trusted Housesitters articles, and I was able to find this house sitter guide which confirms the following:

The issue of influencers is more of a nuanced issue, particularly with regards to Trusted Tailblazers, but as mentioned by @CathyCat the Trusted Tailblazers guidance does state that permission from homeowners is needed, with specific guidance to obtain written confirmation of the consent to post.

I’ve asked the team if there’s any more information they can give me around how it works with Trusted Tailblazers and mentioned that there’s some concern that the rules may not be followed.

Privacy… exactly… it should go both ways. I’m simply saying: don’t ask the sitter not to take photos of where they’re staying if the owner is recording them with cameras. I don’t think that’s normal… but I insist, maybe I’m the weird one…

Hi @Luna17

Just to be clear, the HO should not be using internal video cameras on a sit, and I’d encourage any of our members to reach out if they’re concerned about live internal cameras on a sit :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @jenny ! It sounds simple, but those cameras are still there and we’ll never really know if they’ve been turned off or not… that’s the reality. No matter how much we tell the owner they shouldn’t be connected, in the end, we just have to trust.

No you are not an influencer unless you gave a significant following on social media. Whether or not you are an Influencer is irrelevant in regard to taking photos of someone’s home, you should still ask permission and be explicit as to why, and where you will be sharing them.

I still don’t understand why you are posting about being recorded, you have no proof that you would be. You have made an assumption.

@CathyCat What better proof than the fact that the owner herself said she knew the sitter was taking photos and videos? The sitter never once mentioned she was doing so. Yet the owner clearly knew and even referred to her as an “influencer.” But this isn’t about being an influencer; it’s simply about being in someone’s home and taking pictures.
Anyway, I think it’s time to leave this topic behind. There are more important matters right now. Take care, and I wish you many lovely houses to look after pets in…without taking any pictures of course!

You had full access to both sides of their conversations?

Yes…the sitter , my friend recommended me this place…totally understand why, it’s a beautiful place in a beautiful city. The surprise came later.
All the best

The other sitter in question is your friend? Curious that you waited so long to bring up that tidbit.

Yes I think you are correct, absolutely no point discussing a topic based on so many unsubstantiated assumptions.

I don’t think you’re weird, but I do think you’re stirring the pot for the sake of it.

Just to clarify, Did your friend post photos of the home online? If not, did the HO mention your friend by name, or could she have been referring to another previous sitter who posted photos online?

I take pictures of pets and outdoor scenery —I think it may be better to be careful regarding indoor pictures. Ones that focus on pets is normally what I take and I send to HO too.

Now I’m curious… and perhaps this has been addressed on the “Trusted Tailblazers” discussion, or perhaps it would make a good question in the homeowners’ section – but… I wonder how many homeowners would be less inclined to pick sitters who are members of this.
As a sitter, do you have to disclose it in your application? Are you expected to disclose it in a video chat or other pre-confirmation communication? Are homeowners likely then to pick someone else?
Then, if not previously disclosed and the sitter is on the sit and asks, and the HO says no, it’s likely that someone, somewhere, on some sit, will post photos anyway. So does this give HOs something extra to worry about in trusting their sitter?
…I don’t know, just random musings. I don’t know how it works or anything about it as I do not have the required 1000+(?) social media followers to join

That is a very good question. Certainly, if I where a home owner, I would definitely want to know if someone were a Trailblazer and no, I would not want them in my home if they were.
I wonder if there is any legal comeback for homeowner’s if they discover they have been used in this way?

I sometimes take photos to remember how the home looked when I arrived, ofc they are not used anywhere and can be deleted after the sit.

I take photos to send to the host.

Apart from that I make sure all photos I take have no indicators of names, adress, location, valuables or such. I ask permission to post photos of the pet. All photos of me exploring the location apart from home/ pet I feel I can do freely.

When I take photos of pet I am mindful of their tag if the pet has one - it might be phone no., name or other on it that someone could be able to zoom into.

I might take photos to ask host about something, for that purpose only.

If something was off in the home that might give cause for a member dispute or similar I would take photos, but for that purpose only. It hasn’t happened so far.

Agreed. Why would an HO encourage private photos to be posted, makes no sense. They might agree but it’s surely a blocker to the whole TT concept working well? We sat for a couple who had an influencer sit for them & leave their dogs twice for 10 hours to go & take pretty pics off a Greek island. Never again was their take on it. #poorpooches

Regardless of the Tailblazers scheme it is very naive to think that some sitters aren’t posting images of homes and pets all over social media without permission.
It is not something I do and I mention that in my profile.
