If they made it a condition it doesn’t mean the Ho would take any notice! HOs are supposed to provide many things which don’t always happen….
Definitely true!
Hi Bonny, Think getting tested would be an impossibility with the NHS. I couldn’t even get the head of a tick removed from a very inflamed bite. Drove to nearest surgery 3 miles away and was told no appointments but if I drove onto Bridgewater now over 7 miles away that Boots the Chemist would do it ,as had removal tools and tweezers and magnifying glasses etc. Even said all Pharmacies do it. Wasn’t going to. as a very hot day and didn’t feel ike the long drive. but they insisted it needed to come out. Drove there. Three pharmacist behind counter and they all said they did not do first aid. Advised go to Minor Injuries Unit, less than 2 miles away. And when I arrived they said it was closed and did not know when it would open. Told me to go back to original surgery. As on my way back called in. Greeted by a very rude man who argued that Boots should have done it and nothing they could do as not one of their patients. Absolutely shattered by that time and gave up. did call in a pharmacy at Watchet the next day and again told no they did not do tick removal etc. Advised just to lout antiseptic cream on it and keep n eye on it. Over a week later and back home, one of my daughters did it for me, in less than a minute, as head still there. But it needed me to stretch the skin both sides and my daughter to use delicate fine tweezers to prise it out carefully. I believe that was the only bite of many, where part of the head was left behind. Will keep my fingers crossed. If I do suddenly have signs of becoming ill though, I will attempt to get an appointment
Thanks Silversitters. Kind of you to show concern. I don’t think it will really achieve much to raise a members dispute though.
Do not use ‘fingers crossed’ approach to Lyme’s Disease as it’s a very serious risk.
That is a disappointing review @Visit when you had gone out of your way to take on a more challenging sit that was struggling to attract applicants. I wonder if the star docking was done be cause they were expecting a less generous review from you?
As the UK experiences more extended periods of hotter weather, ticks are becoming more prevalent in areas where they were previously not a big concern. We have had to remove a couple from one of the dogs we are currently sitting on a (non THS) sit. The owners did advise us of walks with less likelihood of ticks where the grass is more managed. However one of the dogs seems to have a knack of inserting his head where ticks are lurking!
@Silversitters FWIW my premium membership did cover hotel costs a couple years ago when I was in a similar flea situation. Less the $150, of course.
Hi Debbie, They were given no indication that I would give them a less generous review, at all. Had always sent them at least daily updates with plenty of photos. I had mentioned I had been badly bittern by ticks though and did send photos of ticks on the light coloured cat. Maybe they did not think that I should have pointed this out? I just had the reply that this was why they always checked them for ticks when they came back in. Well obviously this was what I had been doing and the likely reason I was getting so bitten. The ticks would just walk over from the cats onto me. Could easily have ended up on my hair, which may have been the reason I had bites on the back of my neck…and further down etc. Other than that I had mentioned the disabled cat not liking me putting in the litter tray and would just fight to climb back out. Never had any feed back on that comment. Her poo’s all seemed to be on a mat in front of the litter tray, which I would find just after 6am but I did not even mention that, or the fact I always found a wee on the puppy pad that was left out overnight, at that time also, some of which actually missed the pad. I always wrote any messages in a friendly way and had friendly replies, telling me what they were doing on holiday, with a few holiday shots. I don’t often receive holiday photos from owners.. So I was absolutely shocked at the docking of stars, especially when one of the cats was unable to use a litter tray on its own accord, and didn’t. All the extra cleaning up I had etc.
yes, I am a premium member
I am still at the sit and getting bit everyday. I capture and kill about 10 fleas a day by spraying them with soap when they are crawling on my legs. I have contacted THS and am still awaiting their reply. Am thinking of just packing up and giving 24 hours notice as soon as a package I order arrives.
I am so sorry for this situation and I get how horrible this was for you. I would be very upset. Ticks are worse than fleas! Thanks for sharing and providing feedback. I am still here fending off the fleas…
Not an option. Where would I go during the fumigation. And my belongings are on countertops as there is no storage. And where would the cat go during the fumigation. And that is taking a lot on for a sit of just over a couple of weeks. The pet owners claim their cat is treated. Meanwhile, I watch it scratch itself constantly.
It may be best for you to leave early. You can fully explain why in your review.
Until then, I recommend you vacuum regularly and then toss the vacuumed contents into a bag, seal it, and toss it in the trash outside.
Do you have a flea comb? The cat must be really suffering.
Still waiting for them to get back to me.
Unfortunately, I am not imagining extra fleas. There are plenty and I feel them on me look down and see them crawling mainly on my legs. I have now killed about 30 by spraying soap on my leg and scooping them off and washing them down the drain. The situation is getting worse. Cannot wait to leave. THS has not gotten back to me. I have red spots where they have bit me and try not to scratch. The weird thing is they are even in the backyard! When I go to water their garden fleas are jumping on me.
Still waiting for them to get back to my letter I sent them> I have screen shots of convo with pet parent and photos of the fleas bitting my legs.
Thank you @Cuttlefish- We see someone from membership services has been in touch, and they will be following up today. As @Silversitters correct says, you can ring this emergency number with any on-sit urgent issues.
