Hi everyone!

I’m Robi — usually travelling with my husband, Stu — and we’re long-time sitters who still get a little thrill every time we meet a new furry friend.

We pop into the Forum for two reasons: community and curiosity. There’s always something to learn, whether it’s a clever packing tip or a story that reminds you why this way of travelling is so special.

A few things about us:

• Sitter side: I’m the planner and storyteller; Stu is the calm, animal-whispering half of the team.

• Interests: Slow travel, beautiful architecture, local markets, and any dog with a sense of humour.

• A fun bit: We’ve been known to build entire itineraries around one perfect café or one very cosy library chair.

• Advice we give most often: Setting up clear expectations with owners, prepping for smooth handovers, and how to choose sits that truly fit your style.

Looking forward to hearing everyone else’s stories — and meeting a few new faces along the way.

Hi everyone, I’m Katy, and I’m based in Wellington, New Zealand.

I’ve been house-sitting over the past 10 years around Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Fiji and the Cook Islands. I prefer to go to countries I’ve never traveled to before as a bit of a holiday, but more like a local.

I’m a crazy dog lady, but have minded cats, horses, chickens and goats!

I’m available for around 8 weeks over Christmas and New Years, but would prefer a long term sit somewhere in South East Asia.

I’m a solo female traveler, so I like to be somewhere where is busy and I can meet new friends in the area.

How’s it going? Did you do your 1st sit as yet? What did you learn?

Hello, we are pet parents (one chunky rescue cat, Kevin), living on the edge of the AONB in Surrey, UK, but within a few miles of central London so handy for theatre, art etc in town. We’ve had some fantastic house sitters whilst we have been spending time over in Oz seeing my elderly mum. In time, we would like to house sit for others. Would love to know what sitters have as their main peeves about sits!

Hi @sweetpeas there are loads of threads on this forum about things owners do or don’t do that upset sitters. You can use the looking glass above to do a search. Here’s one of the many threads to get you going Those Little Irritations - #668 by MB98368

Hi everyone, my hubby Dennis and I have been pet/housesitting in Australia and Penang where we once lived for a few years now. (Daughter and grandkids are in Oz). But we lost our darling Maisie Lharsa Apso mix in January last year so decided to do sits nearer home and discover more about Spain/Europe where we are resident. We also didnt want to get another pet at our stage in life as we love travelling. So yes been pet owners for years and it gives us our Fix to look after others pets so they can travel.
Regards Joanne and Dennis

Hi, my name is Fallene and I’m new to Trustedhouse sitters, my husband and I signed up as pet parents.

I wanted to join this community to better understand how to be a good host for future pet sittings, and to connect with potential future sitters.

My husband Kyle and I moved to a small village in the countryside of Northern Galicia Spain over 3 years ago with our 4 cats. We had a coffee shop, cafe and salon at the time, and lived in Denver Colorado for most of our lives. We wanted a different way of life surrounded by Nature and have more free time to do more of what we enjoy. Travel being one of them. We love to garden, cook (we’re vegetarian) write and discover new places. I also love herbalism, painting, sewing, and I have been a hairdresser for 24 years.

For the sitters out there: What do you look for when looking for pet/house sitting opportunities? What is something that has been a good experience, and one that wasn’t as enjoyable?

Thanks for your input, and look forward to connecting with you!

Fallene

First time user at THS and just posted our first Sit opportunity (probably didn’t get that right). Anyway, we live in a health and wellness biophilic community with a great lap pool open year round.

I’m a swimmer also but I’m dealing with a rotator cuff injury and it’s been tough because swimming has always been my go to exercise.

where have your favorite sits been?

Hi All.

My Husband and I have recently joined THS to find sitters, after previously being let down at the last minute by family. My Uncle used to be a member as a sitter and said how great an organisation it is.

We live in Ripley, Derbyshire, in the UK which is on the edge of the Peak District. A perfect place for some spectacular walks as well as having lots of historic houses to visit. We also love our music, going to concerts and music festivals several times a year.

We have posted a couple of sits for March and would love some feedback on these as have not received any applications yet.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @TracyWo and welcome to the Forum. I have found your listing and have a few suggestions to make which I hope you will take kindly.

Heading and Photos: The first photo you choose is key to attracting sitters’ attention. You have several great photos of Tora so I would be inclined to use one of them BUT it needs to be in landscape not portrait form otherwise you will cut off her head! If all three pets get on well, you might be able to take a photo of the three of them together as your first photo.
Your heading simply repeats information that a sitter automatically can see so use it to attract sitters by selling your location and gorgeous pets. e.g Enjoy spectacular walks in the Peak District"

Introduction: As well as telling a little about yourselves, this is also where you need to “sell” your listing to sitters. Why would they want to choose it? There is no need to include anything about your travel plans as it won’t be relevant when next you post your listing. Just keep it general.

Home and Location: Comprehensive

Responsibilities: Offering your car is a good incentive providing sitters are UK based. However, many sitters will want to know are there walks straight from the door. It’s also a real positive that you have a dog walker two afternoons a week.

In relation to preferring sitters to meet (check your spelling of this word) your pets beforehand, this can be restrictive to only attracting local sitters. Many of us are travelling so it’s not really feasible for this to happen. Have a video chat with your most suitable applicants, then invite them to arrive the day before so that they and your pets can bond with each other in your company.

Although it is a kind offer, I don’t think I would include about sitters staying between your two sets of dates. That could be something you just discuss with your applicants.

There is very little about Mork and Mindy! How about a bit more information on their needs, behaviour, the dynamics between them and Tora etc? I often feel sorry for the cats when there is a dog.

Finally, by removing your dates briefly then re-posting them, your listing will become New again which means it will be more visible to sitters. You can do this as often as you want to!

I hope this is of help, Tracy. I’m sure other members will offer advice too.

Thankyou @temba this has been really useful feedback. I have updated some parts already and will now try and get a photo of Tora, Mork and MIndy together for the main photo.

Hi Jenny and everyone else! I am new to the forum and don’t see a way to post here, so I hit the reply tab and hope this gets out.

I am Sue, a pet parent parent to an adorable 6 year old cat named “Squeaky” and am searching for a last minute sit after 3 of my accepted sitters cancelled and missed my flight to Costa Rica where I volunteer each winter at a wildlife rescue center. I am still trying to get there.

Squeaky and I are airbnb super hosts and we live in the famous town of Woodstock NY colony of the arts situated in the heart of the Catskill Mts. At this time of year it would be attractive to people who love the snow, skiig, snow shoeing, music and the arts. Our home is 2 blocks from the town center and bus stop for NY city.

I am schooled in natural forms of healing, my interests are kayaking. Photography, music, animals, gardening,Traveling and artisic creations. My place is an old victorian artits’s house. I want to leave for CR asap and return the end of March or mid April.
