Another vote for West Kirby, we had a great week there and enjoyed walks over to Hilbre Island and many other walks in the local area.
Parkgate is well worth a visit and has a very interesting history.
I’m glad you had a good time. My daughter lives by the beach in Meols. We love it here. There are so many great places to visit and loads of national trust areas on our doorstep to walk the dog. Plus the beach and marine lake of course.

I’m Carla from Argentina. I’m an Environmental Engineer and a yoga teacher. I’ve also been a pet sitter in my country. This year I’ll be traveling around Europe for a few months while working remotely, and that’s why I joined this app.
I really enjoy taking care of pets and spending time in different places to get to know them better. I have a question for the group: last Sunday I saw a listing to look after a dog in Vevey, Switzerland. Since I was out walking, I thought I’d apply later. But when I tried, the app didn’t let me anymore—it now shows the status as “reviewing.”
I’m truly interested in that location and those dates. Do you know if it’s possible to contact the homeowners directly? Or is there any way to still apply?

Welcome @Carla9. You cannot contact the host if they are reviewing. You could mark them as a favourite and when new dates come up you will be alerted but you will need to be quick if it is popular listing.
The host may decline some of the applications they are currently reviewing. They could then unpause the listing and it will show again and you can apply.

@Carla9 When I’ve been a similar situation, I send a quick message to say that I’m interested but am out walking right now (using your example). I ask that they allow me X hours to follow up with a complete application. As long as you ask for a reasonable time (hours, not days) and follow through, I think most owners would be understanding. That way you have saved one of the spots for yourself, while the listing was open. It won’t help for this listing, but something to consider for future ones.

We have already done one sit and have another lined up in Scotland later in the year. Just waiting for our youngest to finish school so we can look for a few more and hopefully build up reviews so that when we are both retired in a few years that we can look at longer term sits.
Hello I’m a new sitter, I want to travel but my budget is severely restricted, so I joined this as a way to see more of the world, and to look after lots of lovely pets on my way. I havent had a pet for 8 years now and I miss the ambience that a pet gives in a place. I also am embracing a new life as a digital nomad type person which is scary.
Hello @Rupertthebear and welcome. I just read the intro you have on your forum profile. Why not share your positive features, instead of mentioning what you’re no longer able to do? For example, many homeowners are drawn to sitters who are homebodies and are happy to do quiet activities at home. It tells pet owners that their pets will likely get lots of caring attention. Maybe say you’re looking forward to your first sit, rather than trying to get that first sit.
You’ve mentioned here that you’re on a restricted budget. Realistically, you do need to have resources for a Plan B, if a sit is cancelled last-minute, owners return home early, or you need to leave the sit early because of unexpected negative conditions. It’s important to create a financial buffer to support you, should something negative arise.

For the past few years I’ve been traveling in a van with my golden retriever Max and border collie Pixel, so I got comfortable with adapting homes and routines around pets. Looking forward to reading your tips, especially for longer sits with older dogs (Max is 8 now and I want to stay aware of other senior-friendly setups).

@Tracey1224 Welcome - from a Canadian sitter. If you use the search/spy glass feature and just key in tips you’ll see lots of responses in earlier posts. My answer is decide with your heart and your own personal experience. Do what works for you, rather than be guided by others. It’s what you’re comfortable with and feel is appropriate that’s important, in my opinion.

My name is Karla, and I’m a U.S. citizen who has been interested in joining THS for about a year now. I’ve been carefully considering a move abroad and trying to narrow down which country and city might be the right fit for me.
I’m an Interior Designer with a background in creating visual displays for retailers and events through visual merchandising. I’ve also been house sitting and pet sitting for friends and family for many years. I genuinely love animals, and they tend to love me right back.
It would truly be a dream to combine my love for pets with the opportunity to discover a city or country where I could eventually build a life and career.
I’m wondering if anyone here has experience, advice, or suggestions on how to combine house sitting with finding work and exploring potential places to live abroad.

Hello! I am a pet owner and new to Trusted Housesitters. My boys are Norman, a sweet ol’ 13-year old cattle dog / healer (plus a bunch of other stuff) mix, and Floogle, a super chill 5-year old shorthair tabby. They are wonderful family members for me and my 11-year old son. My 2-bedroom house is small but well-stocked, comfortable, and full of daylight. We’re in Austin, TX where we enjoy plenty of live music, sunshine, and time with excellent friends. There’s so much to do here and we live in a great location with lots of nearby restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, plus easy access to public transportation. Let me know if you ever want Austin recommendations or tips!
