Wales for 3 months!
Wales is such a beautiful part of the world! Which part of Wales were you in?
Newport, Pembrokeshire.
Hi Vanessa, I’m just now seeing your message. I would love to be part of a Zoom for solo sitters. At the moment, my daughter and granddaughter are included in a possible sit. However, I am solo sitting at this time. Please let me know when you do a Zoom. I would love to hear about other folks experiences and share mine.
Hi, I’m now on my 3rd Sit in Malden, Mass. for 1 week. What I realize coming here is that I am not into “big city” tourism, traffic, & crowds. I will be more careful in selecting my destinations in the future. I thought this was a smaller town on the outskirts of Boston. I was wrong. I have enjoyed the nature trails, the quiet house, the dog, and I will be meeting a friend after & spending a few days in NHampshire before I return home. I am looking to go overseas maybe to Ireland or Italy in the future. My ideal will be a small rural town with access by walking or public transportation. I would want to stay for a few weeks in one place and get to know the community and culture. This will be next year.
I love that you’re already on your 3rd sit, that’s fantastic in such a short period of time and knowing what you do/don’t like is all part of the learning curve.
Earlier today, I was saying that I’d love to visit Florence. maybe you’d fancy sitting in a beautiful Tuscan village? They are super popular when they come up.
Keep the adventure going & happy 4th!
That works out well, because there’s generally less competition for rural sits. You’ve just got to make sure you can get vet care in an emergency, and of course, be able to get yourself food, unless the host voluntarily supplies such (or helps you figure out how to get it), if you’re without wheels.
I am looking forward to learning how to recognize the destinations most suited for my travel explorations. I am hoping that others will share or recommend sits where they may have had the opportunity to connect more closely with the community, townspeople, and the surrounding culture. I have little interest in being a tourist and greater interest in knowing and helping people. I am aware this will require staying somewhere for somewhat more extended sits.
You bring up a good point and one I am also giving thought to: location & transportation. Although I would like to be somewhat rural, I need to be able to walk, bike, or get transport to nearby food & supplies. Ideally, this could be a small town I can access on foot. Or it would be very rewarding to be able to bicycle for groceries.
I’m amy & I live in North Pole, Alaska, USA. I’m a many pet parent/lover/server!

Hi everyone!
I’m Karen from Australia. I have just joined trusted house sitters, as my husband and I are about to embark on 3 months in Europe and I plan to do a few sits in the UK to break up our trip.
We are taking a taste of retirement to see if it suits us
Welcome to the Forum @KarenDeAnne and @amyalaska feel free to take a look around, dive into any topics that you’re interested in, or start one of your own!
Are there any particular locations that you’re hoping to sit?
I already have a sit organised in Wales. Any have applied for a couple of others. One further north and another near Oxford.
I’m wondering if people apply for one sit per date at a time, and wait for a response? How long is long enough to wait before applying somewhere else?
Apply for as many sits as you like, whether overlapping or not. No one is obligated for any sit until there’s mutual acceptance between a sitter and host, using the confirmation buttons on THS.
How long you wait is entirely up to you. Many experienced sitters wait for 48 to 72 hours before withdrawing if a host doesn’t reply. At the other end of the spectrum, some sitters wait indefinitely.
Personally, I wait 48 hours and withdraw if no host response. That’s worked out well for me, because I’ve found that hosts who reply promptly also tend to send thorough welcome guides well ahead of a sit and to write reviews promptly, without my ever having to ask. I think that’s because people who’ve got their act together tend to be that way consistently.
So far, I’ve done 24 sits over two+ years and have had nothing but kind, friendly hosts. Wishing you likewise.
Hi @KarenDeAnne another Aussie sitter & home owner here from Brissie.
Most sitters apply for multiple sits for the same or similar dates. When you confirm a sit you then withdraw your applications for the others with a short note to the owner saying you are now no longer available to do their sit. Some owners are slow to reply/decide on a sitter. In this environment of more sits than available sitters (particularly in the UK), it’s a matter of you snooze, you loose for tardy owners.
Please make use of the spy glass above to search the forum for your question as there is a wealth of information available for new members. Here’s one of many threads about your question.
You will find the experienced members on here are very supportive. If you can’t find your answer through the spy glass search, ask away.
Hope you have a great UK/Europe trip. I’ve done 5 month and a 3 month trips sitting in the UK which were fabulous adventures.
Thanks for the advice

Hi Julie and husband Dom, we have just started ourselves currently on our first sit and all is going well sitting two welsh corgis in west wales… we have lived in Australia for 25 years and decided this app would suit us for accommodation travel and for meeting new people and making contacts… in all honesty it has been good so far and we have secured 6 sits moving forward so will get to travel the length and breadth of Uk without it being excessively expensive we stay in air bnbs or any paid accomodation in between also friends and family we have plenty to catch up with…we have a small dog of our own we bring along and some people don’t want that which we expect but it seems many do as we are not having to much difficulty fining sits… we are both 60 and retired with nothing else to do but wander about..kid grown and flown and now onto grandkids… I say go for it
Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a pet parent. I joined this year after a bad experience with Rover last year.
I go for the odd weekend away and need a sitter for my dog. I appreciate that this is not ideal for people who are long distance from me in NI who want a longer holiday. I’m a bit of a workaholic who is learning to relax again and hobbies are my dog, reading and cooking.
Welcome @SEK wishing you lovely experiences with Trusted Housesitters.
Our Forum has lots of amazing, experienced sitters, and I’m sure they would love to give you any advice you might need along the way!
What kind of food do you enjoy cooking?
