Hi Jenny
Thank you for the warm welcome! All advice is welcome!
I like trying new recipes of any origin to be fair. I love a nice Italian dish or a good Indian curry. Getting recipes off work colleagues is always good and I like to try out a few vegetarian recipes for when my family visit as they are about 50% vegetarian
Bit I will give anything that can be done in a domestic hob/oven a go as long as I can source the ingredients!
A post was split to a new topic: How to go ‘nomad?’
Hello everyone,
I am Romina and started Pet Sitting about 1 year ago. Initially to be able to go to Dubai to meet my cousin whom I never met. Now it turned into a fulltime Gig along with my Online Job. I love it so much
Hi everyone!
We’re Jennifer & James — sitters and long-time TrustedHousesitters members, though this is our first time joining the Forum!
We’re currently on a lovely sit with the adorable Una, and we thought it was about time we joined the conversation here. We’ve been sitting for a while and absolutely love the lifestyle — caring for pets, meeting kind people, and exploring new places.
I’m James, a software engineer based in Ireland, and Jennifer is an esthetician who’s currently taking a career break to explore new interests. We’re both huge animal lovers with plenty of experience caring for dogs and cats, and we take great pride in being respectful, reliable, and detail-oriented sitters.
Outside of pet-sitting, we love long walks, cycling, and soaking up the outdoors. I’m into music and spend my free time tinkering with electronic instruments and sound design, while Jennifer is passionate about ancient cultures and enjoys learning about history and archaeology.
Something fun about us? We’ve got a bit of a yin-yang balance — one of us is all about tech and beats, and the other loves beauty, nature, and the past. It makes for great travel conversations!
We’re here on the Forum to connect, learn, and share with this wonderful community. Looking forward to hearing your stories, learning from your experiences, and maybe even crossing paths on future sits!

Hi
I’m Cathryn and my husband is Kevin.
We are new to THS, and looking for our first sitter. We have two lovely dogs, Libby (12, mixed breed) and Walter (5, lurcher). We live in a cosy, quiet, detached cottage on the river Nene in the market town of March in Cambridgeshire, an easy drive from the nearby beautiful Norfolk coast.
We will be travelling for a family wedding this summer for a couple of weeks, so are looking for someone to look after our dogs, water the garden, sit by the river, and care for and enjoy our house.
If this sounds interesting do take a look - the listing title is “ Cambridgeshire detached cottage on the river with two friendly easy-going dogs “.
Hi all! I’m a sitter who is a single, homeschooling mom (of a 19 yo) who has been contemplating next moves in my life. This sounded like a fun option. I’m a BRAT (Air Force kid) so traveling is in my blood. I love art, books, biking, boating, photography, and of course traveling. So far, I haven’t had any ‘accepts’ on my applications and I’m considering whether or not I should just do their “return” option so as not to lose out on my $. I’d hate to, it sounds like a fun journey and way to see the world. I did have an issue after signing up with the website not showing my references, so that could be a hold up. Also, I’m allergic to dogs, so that cuts my list a bit. I’ve just applied for my 6th sit, again rejected. We shall see…
I’m Taylor, I’m in my late 20s, and I have been a pet sitter for almost 5 years now!
I started pet sitting back in 2021 when folks in my neighborhood were heading back to the office, and their new pandemic pets weren’t used to being alone. I luckily have a job that is 100% remote, so my client list grew quickly! As my little client list grew, I recruited my cousin and my brother to help out, and it turned into a fun little family side business that we now run together!
While I adore my local crew of pets and pet parents, I’m hoping to start traveling more, meet new furry friends across the country, and pass the baton to my younger brother so he can keep things going strong back home!
Pet sitting actually is my hobby! My apartment doesn’t allow dogs, so being a sitter is how I get my dog fix (and then some)!
Fun Fact: I grew up on a ranch in central Florida, which is where my love of animals really began! We had house dogs, working dogs, cats, horses, chickens, cows, pigs, a snake, and even a rogue alligator that called our pond home for a while!
I’m also CPPS certified (Certified Professional Pet Sitter) as of 2022 and carry general liability and bonding insurance through Business Insurers of the Carolinas, just a little peace of mind!
Hi everyone, I’m brand new to the site and I’m almost computer illiterate but do my best .
I’m a massage therapist and my hubby is a dog trainer , I’ve been living in the USA for 20 years but In august I’m moving back to the UK ( husband will be joining me in a couple of months ) .
I love to travel and went all over the world in my twenties, I’m an experienced pet sitter for all animals so thought that THS would be the perfect site to put the two together.
I’m hoping to find sits all around the UK for the first year and then maybe abroad once my husband joins me .
Any tips to get me started would be super helpful.
Hello everyone, we have just joined THS as pet parents on the recommendation of my sisters, one of whom is a sitter and the other a home owner. We adopted the gorgeous Elsa after fostering her for Cats Protection.
She is very much enjoying being outdoors after being confined for so long so THS seems perfect.
We are both retired and enjoy travelling both in the UK and further afield. We are busy volunteers when at home and I have fostered for Cats Protection for four years so I may occasionally have an extra cat or two around! We are very lucky that our home in Peterborough has a large country park on the doorstep and beautiful country villages a few miles away so we have the advantage of living in a city surrounded by nature.
We are looking forward to being part of the THS community and having a very happy cat for years to come.
Hi my name is Judy and I live in Canada. I just completed my first sit in Ireland. I am now excited for my next. My sit was at the perfect location to explore the north and the requested services were vey manageable. I house sat at home as a second income for the past 10 years. This gave me lots of experience to feel comfortable and be able to travel on a budget. It’s a win-win for everyone.
Thank you , I’m looking forward to my first sitting experience, I’m waiting until we arrive in the UK at the end of august before I start applying ( and will then have a phone number to share ) .
Can I give references from people I’ve sat for in the past even if it’s not through THS?
Welcome to the wonderful world of trustedhousesitters! - offering references from anyone will definitely help you secure your sits.
Good luck
Hi all, We just joined this site after meeting some other members with their host’s dog on a hike in New Mexico while visiting our daughter there. We thought it sounded perfect for us as we are planning a 6-8 week long cross-country van trip this winter (late Jan to early March) and would love to have someone stay with our pup in our house in upstate NY during that time. Large comfortable house in country but close to urban areas, perfect for someone who works remotely. As retired people, we are flexible about dates and just hope to find someone who would like to do this and enjoys winter weather—we are close to lots of skiing and hiking plus cultural/historical sites but we do live up a short but steep dirt road so AWD is important although we could make an arrangement for use of one of our cars. Dog is a 10 year old rescue mix–only quirk is needs to be outside if you are gone but we have a heated dog pad under a shelter and she prefers to be outside as much as possible anyways. Any tips on advertising our situation and attracting the right person/couple would be much appreciated.
Hi, my name is Helan and I’m new to Trusted house sitter. I have retired now and excited to start getting my pet fix by house sitting! My son and family are just moving to Tasmania from the US so I’m initially forcussing in that area to spend some time with them without being in their pockets. Xmas is in Hobart this year so looking for a Housesitting.
I’ve had two dogs in my life, Lab/kelpie crosses, lived till 18 & 17 respectively so very blessed. I need to get my pet fixes on a regular basis as unable to have pets where I live. I’m that person when out walking, will greet the dogs, then, oh, hi to the owners!,
I grew up on a property so had many varied pets from dogs, rabbits, lambs and even a kangaroo! My career covered medical, judicial and police admin careers so coming home to my pet was wonderful. Best friends ever!
Think I’ve gone on enough but excited to the new adventures to come!
Hi @HelanT and welcome. I’m Australian and live in Brisbane, Queensland a very long way from Hobart. But I love Hobart and Tassie, hopefully you and your family will too. Tassie is very scenic with a lot of colonial/convict history and spectacular wine! Enjoy your Aussie Christmas, it’s very different to a northern hemisphere Christmas as it’s summer here. So think, seafood, salads & swimming!
Hi Crookie, thanks for your email! I’m definitely excited. My daughter and I had Xmas there when my son first moved to the U S but we were further up the coast.
We have lots of beautiful seafood in Yamba but Hobart has those beautiful oysters! Heaven!!
I am a recently retired teacher (June 2025) and my husband is a soon-to-be retired professor (last class December 2025). We have our first sit in Ohio, not far from our home in Michigan, in October. Baby steps. We love to travel and have lived in Turkey, Ukraine, Austria, and Slovenia. We figured THP is a great way to travel and experience local culture. We’re both animal lovers, but haven’t been able to get another dog since our girl died two years ago. I love to play tennis, bridge, and mahjong (American). Looking forward to your posts!
Hi! My husband and I are just rejoining. We were members about 7 years ago and had a fabulous pet sitting experience in Del Mar, CA. We are native Californians that relocated to Connecticut 9 years ago. We brought all of our farm animals with us and bought a farm that we sold last year. We bought a 5th wheel thinking we could buy a piece of property and live on the cheap. We quickly found out this was not the case. We have lived in a couple of campgrounds and it is wonderful but we are having a hard time finding year round places. They are usually only open from April to October. The campground we are in now is trying to go year round but we just found out it isn’t going to happen in time for this winter.
We are enjoying RV life and we still have 3 small dogs and a cat that came with us from CA. I have two thoughts on what we might be able to do to not only help ourselves but others too. The first idea is that we could relocate our RV to the home that is need of a sitter and be able to do whatever is needed without our animals needing to access anyone’s home or, if that isn’t an issue, we could store the RV and occupy the home along with any of their pets. We are looking for someplace in CT from later this year thru early next year ideally. We have experience with almost any kind of animal as we are both animal lovers and had a hobby farm for the last 20 years, 8 of which were in CT. Our animals are very adaptable with other animals. We have always taken in friends and family’s pets when they wanted to go away and we have never had an issue.
We are open to any and all suggestions and would love to hear from you and make some new friends. I was so looking forward to enjoying this summer here in Sterling, CT but now I am pretty anxious about our upcoming move in October. It seems too early to go apt hunting but I won’t be able to relax until we have something set up.
Thank you for reading and if you can help in any way, we would be so appreciative!

Good afternoon
My name is Elsie and I sit with my husband “almost” full time. Been on this site for almost 8 years and done over 160 sits. We are both retired and love a good adventure which sometimes gets in the way of my need to be around animals. We spent five years sailing around the Atlantic on a 40 foot yacht. 2 years doing a road trip round North America from Florida Keys to where the sealed road ended In Labrador. From the frozen north in Alaska to San Diego and everything inbetween. 4 months flying round the world with a 2 month stay in New Zealand. Lots of winters in Spain. And this year we have just booked a 11week cruise round South America with stops in The Falklands and a cruise past some of Antarctic. Get the picture?
We have pets at all round the world. Most summers are spent in the UK near Alton in Hampshire. My husband is a gliding pilot and has his own glider (and static caravan) on an airfield there. I spend my time pet sitting. Favourites are energetic well behaved dogs. In winter we follow the sun. I cannot imagine not having animals in my life but we do travel a lot so THS is a fantastic compromise for us.
My advice for newbies, tell the truth, communicate and never give up. There’s something out there for everyone.
I think I have set up a link to my profile if you click on my name so all the information is there.
Hi Jenny, not sure if this is the right place for my message/question.
We are new here, but have already found a sitter couple for October. Can you see our profile? My question: we plan to do in the future several short trips of 3 to 5 days and therefore think it would be great to find a sitter nearby, which is in country: France. We have no fixed dates and that is why it is difficult/impossible to search for a sitter. But is there a way to see all sitters - say - in the Luberon area? we would get in touch with them and find out about their availability because we are totally flexible with our time. And of course we would like to have the same sitter for several trips if not years to come, which would make it much easier to explain everything about our four dogs, two horses and the very big house. Warm regards - Mick
