Let’s get to know each other! Introduce (or reintroduce!) yourself to the Forum here!

Hello Jenny and All:

I am a first day on the forum guy and a home and dog owner. Being beyond 70 I am somewhat digitally impaired bit I muddle thru as best I can.

My bride of 53 years and I built our dream home just beyond the lights of Nashville TN on 45 acres and now set our sights on traveling more while providing her expectations for care for our beloved 9 year old German Wirehair Pointer, Phoebe.

My question are basic: When do sitters arrive, prior to our departure by a day or more? Do they have their own transportation? And how far out is it advisable to post?

I’m sure others may arise but that’s it for now. I’ll do a lot more reading through posts In an attempt to become more fluent with the group and protacols. Meanwhile thanks for your assistance.

Phoebe is always looking out over our property. Which we find great as I don’t hear well and she soots visitors before they come up the drive.

She barks at everyone mostly out of excitement.

I forgot to add my hobbies. I love to fish and hunt and really just enjoy the outdoors. We overlook the Cumberland river and lots of public land close at hand.

Really the best thing to do is post your upcoming dates and see who applies to your sit opportunity. You may find someone local, but often times people like to travel for sits, far away from home.

It is understandable that you want to form a relationship with someone who will do repetitive, shorter sits. You might find such a person or couple, but I think this is not typical on THS. That is more typical of a paid sitting arrangement.

Best of luck on your October sit!

Hello everyone! I’m new to TH. I registered as I have a new cat, Saffy - a gorgeous black and white moggy (moggies rule!) - and discovered that she hates catteries. Saffy is usually calm and sociable but when I adopted her she’d been stressed in the cattery, so a housesitter seems best for her. And it’s good to know my home will be looked after while I’m away too. I’m a newly retired counsellor, live in Surrey, and I’m very much looking forward to doing some other things in retirement - creative writing, visiting National Trust places and even more swimming than I do now. As well as spending more time with Saffy of course!

Hello Everyone! I living in Melbourne Australia, but I am currently in the UK, on a visit home. It is 9 years since I was back here, and have been to Spain & Ireland during this trip. I have puppy raised a Labrador from 5 weeks old, for Guide Dogs Australia, and she now has her forever home with us again.

I lost my 23 yr old Son last year, and needed to take a trip home to my sisters and mum, to help process everything.

I joined THS on the suggestion of a friend, and it has been such a gift, as I have been able to get lots of fur baby cuddles whilst I am here, from the different sits.

I will definitely look at being both an owner and a sitter when I go back to Australia, so that our beautiful Claudette can be lovingly care for, and we in turn can look after others pets so they can go away, with peace of mind.

Hello all, I am new to the site.
I love pets and dogs in specific and I’ve always wanted to adopt one.
However, due to work commitments I just never get around to it. I walk other people’s dogs often and I love going to the park and making fury friends.

I am joining the site as I love the idea of traveling and spending time with pets.

Now, where do I get my first sit?

@oxuk85 you first need to join Trusted House Sitters on their website and then you can apply for sits. This is only a discussion forum for members of THS.

Welcome! I’m a Canadian and housesit regularly in the UK - preferably cats. Perhaps we’ll meet up one day.

Hi All

I’m a pet sitter currently travelling the world and pet sitting is an amazing opportunity to keep my costs down while seeing towns and villages I’d probably never visit as a ‘tourist’

I’m a digital nomad which always sounds cooler than it actually is

I joined the forum (although I admit I have been lurking for ages) because the wealth of knowledge here is huge!

My hobbies? Well travelling obviously and reading. I don’t really watch TV my face is always in a book

I’m a sitter who originally joined THS to go visit my daughter in Europe during her gap year. That never materialized, but I’m hooked on sitting now. I joined the Forum because I was reading a bunch of articles and I got an invite to join. I love hiking and camping. Something interesting…I met my husband over email in the late 90’s before swiping right was a thing.

Good morning, Everyone!

I’ve been both a sitter and a pet parent for a few years with TH, and I love it. Unfortunately, my dog, Izzy, a beautiful black and white Schichon, passed away earlier this year, and I miss him like crazy. I’m filling the void by traveling from home to home and meeting all kinds of new animals through TH. I love to travel slowly, so being in a home for an extended period of time helps me get to know the animals I’m caring for, as well as the area I’m in.

I’m a writer, so I take my work with me, and I make it a habit to visit the local coffee shops on a regular basis. My most recent work, The Mystic, is the first of a trilogy titled The Art of Rivers. Each story is set on a different river. I find that writing helps me plug into wherever I am, helps me learn the language, and maybe I can make a friend.

I love to find new places to hike, art galleries showing local work, markets selling local vegetables, and pubs serving delicious food. I play pool, so I like to challenge myself by playing against new opponents. And I’m in the process of putting aside pieces of embroidery that I will applique and quilt while I’m traveling this winter.

Something fun or unique? I’ve visited some of the most interesting bookstores in the world and want to write a book about them someday. If you want to know more, I can bore you for hours

Cheers,

Dawn
