Location pet peeve!

I’ve brought this up on the forum before but it definitely has become a pet peeve of mine as a sitter. I live in a suburb of Vancouver and still enjoy doing house sits in various areas of Vancouver and there are other areas that don’t appeal to me despite Vancouver sits being snapped up very quickly. I just saw a sit that looked very inviting - lovely home and pets but I have no idea where exactly in the city it is. The homeowner states how wonderful the walkable score is and the transit is basically outside her door but still no idea what area of the city it is located so I won’t apply. I can occasionally tell from the pics where in the city it is but these pics were only of the inside of the house. I don’t understand how a homeowner could overlook such an important and much needed detail in their listing. Obviously, not a homeowner I would want to sit for as I’m a very detail oriented person. Rant over

I completely agree. And…there is an entire section in the listing titled “Home and Location.” You can “apply” and ask about the location!

It makes me wonder what sort of guidance is given by THS to help Owners create a strong listing. If people lack the common sense to provide the name of their neighborhood within a large city, perhaps step by step instructions might help!

Totally agree. My guess is that it doesn’t occur to some hosts, but some lean toward privacy.

I skip all listings where I can’t figure out the neighborhood. Sometimes the host doesn’t mention it, but sitter reviews do.

I agree. As a sitter, I list the location in my review to help future applicants. I give a general ideas, e.g. "“I loved my sit for Julie in Ballsbridge, Dublin.”

Adding the location to my review also explains where I sat, in case the HOs move later. For example, it looks like I did a sit in California for one couple, although it was really NYC but they moved to CA after the sit.

When I brought this up before, THS did mention something about privacy but just indicating a location in a city doesn’t invade one’s privacy. I’m not asking for a specific address until confirmed for a sit.

Good idea nothing that in a review! I’m from Dublin originally and have done two sits there and it would be very important for me to know the location of a sit in that city.

That’s a coincidence. I’ve actually never done a sit in Ballsbridge, I was just using that as an example. I have done sits in Ranelagh and Ringsend!

What part of Ireland are you from? I’m from Dundalk

I was born in Ringsend and have seen a few sits there I’d love to do to go back to my roots but timing is always off. I’ve done two sits for the same couple in Drumcondra which was a great location. Hoping to get back soon. I emigrated to Canada with my parents 67 years ago and we were the only ones to emigrate so hopefully one last trip to see my cousins!
