If I saw that in the listing I’d pass. I’m not keen on raw meat for dogs let alone hearts!
I did however look after a dog a few years ago who ate raw meat that had to be weighed every morning and in the evening had reindeer tinned meat. It must have cost the owner a fortune
I’m from California so I don’t find that unusual at all. I had a cat client where I had to give her one tablespoon of yogurt each night. Only plain Greek yogurt. I had to hold the tablespoon while she ate it. I actually enjoyed seeing the cat’s face as she made sounds of joy eating her delicacy. Then there was a client who left me a recipe for dog treats that I baked in a cookie pan shaped in dog bones. I enjoy cooking so I enjoyed learning a new recipe and even bought a cookie pan like that on return to share my new recipe for friend’s dogs during the holiday season. Then there was putting on doggie shoes before walks when hot outside so the dog doesn’t burn his feet of hot pavement. He had different colored shoes to match the color of the harness he was wearing that day. I had one client that left instructions to put together different human foods found in the refrigerator for a snack at night. A tablespoon of this, a piece of that all mixed together. There was one piece of meat in a container that I didn’t recognize and chose not to know by asking. I may have gagged.
I also looked after a dog that would have half a kilo of raw minced beef twice a day. The amazing thing was that he would gobble it up in about 1 second. It was like he was inhaling it with a single breath!
Again, that must have been costing the owners a fortune!
I was asked to hand feed custard cream biscuits to a Kunekune pig as one of my responsibilities. She also required the straw in her bedroom to be fluffed up on a regular basis, and I was under strict instructions to switch the radio on in time for her to listen to the evening episode of The Archers!
There was this experience that really shocked me and made me laugh… not gross or anything, just kind of weird at the time. These two adorable vegan dogs wouldn’t start eating until adding turmeric to their meals.
Of course, during the sit, I looked it up a bit and it seems that turmeric actually has some benefits for dogs. Just in case anyone finds it interesting:
Not gross but quite hilarious - we had to get the dog to sit away from her full food bowl until we said the phrase “eat, drink and be merry”. Then she could take a lunge forward to the food and wolf it down.
When I was growing up we had snapping turtles who ate beef and chicken hearts. I remember my parents ordering them from the grocery store deli, slicing and feeding them every day. As a child (and another person from California @Seniorsitter haha) I didn’t find it unusual at all.
Turmeric is amazing, I’m amazed the pups at that sit ate it so well! I used to give my own labby some to help with hip arthritis and he’d only eat it things like bananas mixed in!
