My sitter seems to want to cancel last minute

Thank you so much! I just added the listing, would you be kind enough to see if it shows up properly in my profile now? I appreciate it!

It works perfectly fine. I’ll have a look but I’m afraid I’m too far from India to be available.

@Billiwaali I had looked at your listing previously but decided I couldn’t do it. Definitely is going to be a harder one to fill particularly at this short notice and cost of flying at present plus visa fees, passport issues and approval time. But there’s always hope, and fate is a wonderful thing trust me on that one, as is karma

Hi @Billiwaali

You’d be more than welcome to post in our Last Minute Sits category if the dates are relisted with THS, just in case someone sees it, though I think it would be better as a plan B, as you might find it easier to find someone closer to home this time.

Like @ziggy says, there is always hope, and I really hope that you get something worked out.

Oh, I know, I’ve been very lucky in getting sitters in the past from Australia, the UK, the US and France. Honestly the way exchange rates work it isn’t really affordable to keep up a membership here unless I also need sits when I’m travelling abroad. I renewed my membership specifically because I knew this big travel was coming up. Oh well. Fingers crossed and whatnot!

Hey Jenny, the rules say that it needs to be 10 days from the start of the sit, and I’m at 12 days so do I need to way? Anyway I can’t list it until my dates are live again, and that won’t happen till the sitter actually cancels so I guess I’m stuck waiting for member services to get back to me.

As you know, it takes time to have a visa approved for India (my last visit I had to send my passport away for approval, it took forever, not sure if that’s still the case) and the visa cost is quite high, so it isn’t easy. I have to be honest in saying that your best chance is to find a local sitter or friends and that does suck. Under these circumstances, I wouldn’t cancel either because your chances of finding another sitter are so slim, you may as well try for the cancellation insurance. You really don’t have anything to lose now by doing that. Really poor form

Hi @Billiwaali - I should have mentioned that we can relax the 10 day rule for you given the circumstances

Yep, international travel can be a pain and that’s exactly why I listed a few months in advance and wanted to finalise early. Unfortunately finding anyone local to do the fish tanks is hard, I’m probably going to have to pay a professional to come visit. The sitter is currently telling me that she isn’t sure if she can cancel, and urging me again to do it ā€˜if I need to’. Sigh.

Thank you! Can I go ahead and list it even if it isn’t live yet?

@ziggy evisa now. Quite quick to get for Aussies. And up to 12 months (may even be a longer one too) but you have to leave each 90 days. We went for a trip to Bangladesh and were in India for al.ost 5 months.

If we weren’t locked in for a sit in Bangkok for our next border run, id be over like a shot . In Vietnam and flights are cheap on Indigo and Vietjet. Have spent lots of time in India, but yet to visit Pune.

Just before paying for a professional to look after the fish tanks, it would be wise to check with member services what the sit cancellation policy actually covers.

The terms state:

ā€œPetā€ means pets covered by this Plan. This Plan exclusively covers domestic dogs and cats only.

This suggests that fish care may not be included in any claim coverage.

@Billiwaali I notice that you haven’t left a review for your last sitter ( Feb ) and she didn’t leave a review for you . Was there an issue with the sit ?

Hey @Billiwaali I noticed in your listing that you are asking sitters to reach out. Unfortunately, sitters can’t reach out if you don’t have an active listing. If you add another listing for dates close to your sit, you could then ask sitters to reach out by applying to those dates.

Even though THS has put out this announcement about sitters being able to cancel, I don’t see it on my profile - so maybe your sitter doesn’t have the option on their profile either. Hopefully member services can cleared all this up soon.

@Billiwaali I so wanted to give you some positive comments, now that your listing is in your profile. However, as well as lack of reviews from each side for the most recent sit (February 2026), each of the four reviews on your profile have less than 5* reviews.

Every review docked you a star for cleanliness, which is so important. You show there is a cleaning lady each day, but they are only doing the floors. A daily floor cleaner person can be more of an inconvenience than a help, especially if the sitter needs to be at home when the cleaner is there (which isn’t mentioned either way).

By the way, your dates are now live. I wish you well.

I just perused one of my upcoming sits and I already see that I have the option to cancel the sit. I am on an android device using the app. Once I have clicked on the sit, then clicked on the 3 horizontal dots in the upper right corner, there is ā€˜cancel this sit’.

@Billiwaali I just checked out your listing, I love India, however I have to say the level of work with the fish and the cats that don’t get on combined with essentially being in the outskirts of Pune seems to offer very little in the way of fair exchange. Combined with the reviews, I would not apply and I am not saying this to be mean but merely to explain why you might have trouble attracting good sitters. And if they haven’t booked their ticket I’d say it definitely a problem.

I see it now. It looks nothing like the screen shot in Product Updates. I’m sure many people will have trouble finding it.

It was one click once I’d clicked on one of my future sits (just testing this new feature) definitely NOT cancelling!
