Need assistance finding a sitter near Orlando

Hi everyone! I joined a few months ago as this seemed like a great way to travel without worrying if my dogs were well taken care of. Unfortunately, I have now booked our vacation and can’t find a sitter. I have invited over 15 already and no applicants. Can you have a look at my listing and share some suggestions please?

Welcome @Peggywiz! Your listing looks absolutely fine to me, and your rescues adorable.
I just want to clarify - do the dogs need to be walked separately? (your listing says 20 minutes each). And perhaps just mention if they walk well on a lead or if someone needs to be strong, because the dogs look strong.

Honestly, nothing in your listing is putting me off, except that it’s short! Other sitters will likely chime in, but could you perhaps take the listing down for a few minutes, and re-list, then it will show up as ‘new’ and go to the top of the page again. It might re-jig some interest.

Wow, I’m surprised you haven’t had applicants, your profile is really good already.

But here’s a few suggestions:-

Personally I’d change your title. All I see on a laptop is below:
“Fenced, pool home near outdoor adventures”
and then it cuts off until I click it.

I don’t think “fenced” is your biggest selling point with so many gated communities in your area, looking at the property, I’d almost ‘expect’ it to be in a safe & secure place. Also, start every important word in the title with a capital to make them stand out.

Personally I’d title it:-
Beautiful Pool Home near Attractions
or
Beautiful Pool Home, Happy Dogs, & Attractions Near By

Also, I would re-arrange your images, your strongest one is the one of the front of the property with yourselves and your dog, and the palms, not the one you’ve got, which is the front up close. Your second best image is the one of yourself in the pool, not your kitchen one which is currently what you have in second place, because it’s a poor quality, blurry image.

Also, you’ve doubled up on some images, when there’s no reason to. Yes, show the important spaces, but less is more, because it’s quality images we need. So for example, the one of yourself in the pool is amazing in sunshine, and the one with your dog in front of the pool is amazing, but there’s another one with an empty pool which looks lacklustre in comparison to other two, so remove it.
Also I’d remove the cream sofa one from a distance, because your up close one is such a better quality of shot, and because also I can already see you have a lot of different seating areas from the other sofa image etc.

Thank you so much for your invaluable feedback. I’ve made a few changes. :crossed_fingers:

Whoops, oh no, you’ve now got your blurry kitchen image as your first image. So try again. That first/main image needs to be your best of the best shot.

You can search for your own home to see how we see it too. Just click on the “find a house sit” section and pop in Heathrow, FL & zoom in on the map, and you’ll see it how we view it, among all of the others.

I’m sure you’ll fill it quickly.

I didn’t look at your pictures but I will tell you what would turn a lot of people off. You say they have to be walked in The afternoon. That means sitters have a few hours to explore in the morning and then they have to return. I would change it to long walk in AM and then PM. They have a doggie door. You also did not mention the breed. They look like pit bulls. If they are you need to say that. If they are something else you need to say that.

Thank you for checking. I think it’s fixed now.

Thank you! I’ve made the updates. I didn’t think of this. They are pit mix from the local animal shelter where I volunteer

As others have said your home and neighbourhood looks lovely. And I’m sure your dogs are too but unfortunately - whether it’s fair or not - the fact that they are large pit bulls, one of which pulls on the lead, will restrict your sitter pool.

They’re a banned breed in the UK and, even though I’m very experienced with many breeds, I wouldn’t sit for a large potentially reactive dog that I didn’t know, and needs 2 walks a day, as I’d be worried I couldn’t control it.

I wonder if they could do without walks for the short period you’re away, as they have a doggie door - would x2 play sessions in the garden be an alternative? This might help attract more sitters. Good luck.

Your home looks lovely.

Sits with cats or small dogs have a larger pool of sitters than big dogs, the main thing isn’t to attract loads of applications, but one good match. So be transparent so you get that one good match.

You mention parks in Orlando, but it seems that isn’t really an option to visit, with afternoon walk and max 6 hours for a couple or a solo traveller as you say you want. What could fix that would for instance be open to more sitters in the sitter party (maybe one of them would be happy to be with the dogs while the others go to a park) or offer to get a dog walker or something one day should the sitters like to visit a park. Or maybe not, but then parks isn’t a selling point for this sit.

It might not be a good sit for smaller children, but maybe one could be open for a family with one or two big «kids» - a family similar to yours?

Is this a gated community with some facilities like a gym or something that a sitter could have access to? The private pool is great, though. Just a thought.

Thank you for the feedback. We have a regular dog walker and can certainly schedule her to walk the dogs if needed. I’ve adjusted the listing accordingly. Thanks again!

Thank you for the feedback! I’ve updated the listing. We can certainly have our dog walker come over. I didn’t know it was allowed during a sit. Thanks again :slightly_smiling_face:

Your listing reads like one of the dogs would sleep with the sitters. While some sitters are ok with that, it will be a turn-off for many sitters.

My wife and I live in Florida and frequently do pet sits here. Your listing looks great with the recent changes and I am surprised you do not have more applicants. We would be thrilled to apply for your sit if we were not booked. The only issue I see is that it is a short sit, which some sitters try to avoid. Maybe a smaller issue, and one you can not do anything about is the fact that the main tourist season has ended for plentiful out-of-state sitters. If in the future you need a sitter November to Easter I’m sure you will get a big response.

Thanks for the encouragement
