Never Seen This Before

There is a sit that starts tomorrow with four applicants. They are not in review. Not newbies and have a few reviews on their page. I am curious how this works. Maybe they found someone from another site or changed their plans. I’m sure those 4 applicants if contacted today would refuse. But not even in review. So tomorrow when sit is supposed to start and the hosts have not removed their listing, how does THS handle it? Do they do nothing or send out a message to the host or sitters? Just curious .

Hi @SeniorSitter1

Thanks for the heads up about this.

I know that some of our members might have seen something like this over the years, so they might have an answer for you, but I have also passed your feedback to the team in case there’s anything they can tell me.

If you think it’s worth the team taking a look at the listing, feel free to send it to me via DM, or reach out to Membership Services directly if you prefer. I’m happy to help though!

Jenny

I think the listing just disappears once the sit starting date has been reached. I know some hosts have had to change the dates if they still needed a sitter even if it was a bit later.

Regarding the applicants, I have no idea what happens. I don’t know if they receive an automated message but there’s really no point. It would have no informative value and certainly no courtesy value, at least IMHO.

Thank you Jenny

That would make sense that it disappears.

This is not uncommon. Hosts might change their mind about traveling, get a sitter elsewhere, have a family member sit, etc and they don’t bother taking down the listing. I’ve left applications just to see what happens. The sit just disappears once the dates pass.

I’ve seen stuff like this before. It happens sometimes. My speculation is that the homeowner changed their plans and never cancelled the sit and the sitters never bothered withdrawing. There are other possible answers to this. I believe I read here long ago that once a sit actually “starts” by date, the listing disappears from view. You could come back and let us know if this is the case.

I’m curious - how do you see the reviews, etc. of the applicants when the listing is still open? I often look at the profile and reviews of sitters when the sit has been completed but didn’t know you can do this while in the application stage.

Don’t even remember where I saw it as I just was browsing.

I saw this host has reviews on their page. I thought at first they were newbies and that is why their listing was still up.

Got it - thanks!

Or the homeowner has chosen one of the applicants and agreed to sit off platform to avoid the new fees. Then not bothered to remove the dates which will disappear once the start date comes around.
