New Feature: Clear messaging of Guest Policy

Hey @Cleeflang

Here’s a link to a live listing where the option(s) are available. :+1:

Hope this helps.

@Wildcolonialgirl and @systaran I’ve added a  to your post, but one is just not enough in this instance.

@Mark_B These new feature announcements are increasingly being met with sound member feedback which overwhelming supports that the changes are unwelcome. I’m sure there should be a stronger word than unwelcome, but I can’t think of any right now.

As an aside: I saw a listing today with a leaving time of 10 am. It’s the first I’ve seen with no range whatsoever. The height of inflexibility, but I doubt the owner meant it that way. Maybe they were just tired of filling in check boxes.

@Mark_B That’s an example of the type of listing I would never apply to. It’s so impersonal, basically just lists. This used to be a friendly, peer-to-peer exchange with the goal of benefiting both parties. Now, so many listings come across as job ads. The attitude of a friendly exchange seems to be gone.

@Mark_B not just unwelcome but unnecessary. The arrival/departure times will hinder owners getting applications too and best left to discussion at time of confirmation. If the times don’t suit me I simply move on, whereas in reality they are likely to be flexible.

@systaran it has definitely changed since it became more for the benefit of shareholders than the sitters/owners. The final phase of “enshittification”.

I went to that listing and clicked on each category. I don’t see anything about guests, nor do I see an amenities section. I’m accessing on my iPhone using the app.

Exactly, but if we apply and the time is for real, then HO will say we are wasting their time and we certainly would because why on earth should we assume the HO is making a mistake ?
Not the best way to start contact.

There’s a forum member (@Wend ) who had that on their listing, what they really meant was they could leave any time after 10. They have now changed to “to be agreed later”

I just went to the web and accessed the same listing and those things are present. It’s kinda staggering at just how different the same listing looks on the app vs the web.

Same for me -

I then deleted my App and updated it and then these new sections appeared .

I couldn’t find an easy way to update the App without deleting it and there is no notice that you don’t have the latest version .

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, no change. Fortunately I usually rely on the web. I mostly use the app for the forum. I had no idea the discrepancies are this bad.

To update my apps I go to the App Store and it tells me which of my apps has an update, and I generally choose Update All

@Newpetlover not a “mistake”, most owners would think they have to put something but in reality arrival/departure is usually flexible. Ask in your application whether the times are firm or flexible.

My point is:

  • if we still have to ask if arrival time is flexible, then why introduce this feature?
  • If HOs really mean the time they’ve selected, we would be wasting their time as much as some people do when they ignore that HO only wants couples or single female and so on…
  • If, despite there being a time selected, I still ask, HO could think that I didn’t read the listed or that I just assumed the time reference was not to be taken seriously.

Conclusion: the new feature may be useful in just a few cases and it’s impossible to discern in which cases we are supposed to take it literally.
Just more clutter.

@Mark_B This may not be a good example of a listing, given my post today.

New information: Families allowed. Guests allowed.

Missing information: All of the Amenities section. How many beds are there? What size are the beds? Who knows!

Sitter response: Move to the next listing.

If you click on the little “i” in the circle beside it, the popup says the sit is suitable for families with children, and that family members should be on your profile before you apply. That’s the website version, anyway.

I know that, but many people won’t bother to click on the tiny i.

Oh for sure. Lots of people don’t fully read things that don’t require extra clicks!

@ziggy Yes. This is what the 2 new fields look like on my listing per the default answers set by THS

I updated my apps, and a guest section still doesn’t show up on the link you gave:face_with_diagonal_mouth:
