New on THS - lots of Nos

I hope so. Now I have 4.9 in my review section…the PP gave me a 4 star, I gave her a 4 star too so it was reciprocal. The other three reviews are 5 stars but they are outside THS. So now I wonder if PP will still have me!

When I look at your profile I don’t see any reviews only your three references.

I only had one sit and it didn t go so well. I think she left me 4 stars but no review. This is going to make things even harder…

Why do you think this ?

I’ve checked your profile no one has left you a review yet - there is no review showing on your profile .

It won’t be the end of the world. If your overall rating is around 4.9, that’s not a red flag for most HOs. The lack of text also might not be so bad – especially if a prospective HO digs into it and reads your review of that sit to get a more complete picture.

I think this might be your biggest weak point. Take some time to develop some solid boiler plate. Each application should be customized, but a lot of its contents can be repeated with each sit. Once you firm up the stuff that’s always the same, it will make it easier to act quickly when an opportunity comes up.

This.

I have a template on my phone (I usually use my phone and the app) that I can quickly copy-paste. Because I usually have a section about me, and ofc that is quite similar.. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I do tailoring to each sit, and I can for instance say something about some experience for one sit that isn’t relevant for another. It does help me with the structure of my application.

Just don’t use names of host and pet names in the template, as some sitters have been unlucky with that, using the wrong name.. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I think it is important to be personal for that specific sit, but in my experience it hasn’t helped me to have a very long application. I tried it for some time and then shortened it, and feel I got more results with my shorter ones. I guess that could differ between different hosts and countries, perhaps. I try to just «be me» and to get good matches.

If you have an iphone, you can take this a step further and create a shortcut (automation) that automatically copies the text and opens THS. It only shaves a couple seconds off the copy-paste process but makes me feel really baller every time I use it

When I look at my review it says 4,9 overall…

Where are you seeing this review ? None of us can see it on your profile .

Also reviews are whole numbers
Either 5 or 4 not 4.9

Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing - without personal details ?

Or contact member support by using live chat and asking to speak with a human ( not the chat bot :robot: “Frankie “)

You have 3 references and no reviews.
Reviews are from THS homeowner members that you have sat for. References are from people you know who can vouch for you.

Reviews carry more weight than references.

Have you written your review of your first sit? You only have a couple of days left to do it. The homeowner can write one of you regardless of whether you do one or not. They are blind reviews.
I would hate your first review to be a poor one in view of all the problems you encountered. You need to state the facts and how you overcame them.

Sitting for people can be hard work, especially in your case where they havnt disclosed health problems. I would have also panicked,so personally, i think you had done the right thing, and the owner put alot of un necessary stress on you. I have no problems txing my hosts if i am unsure about something, its usually things they havnt made clear in welcome guide, and the hosts have always been happy with the questions.
Id suggest the same as others, do some short sits to get some good references, and once you have these references you will find getting sits slot easier.
I usually do a breif application, and then put, please read my profile and references and if you think i would be a good fit then please get back to me.
I have some good references now so probally get 50% of what i apply for and now get invited to sits i haven’t applied for, but have favourited.
If i apply, and i dont hear from someone reasonably quickly, in a couple of days, I withdraw my application. I want to sit for people with good communication skills, and its not hard to acknowledge an application and let someone know they have received and will get back to you shortly.
I find doing this you end up with hosts which have good communication skills and appreciate you more.
Your profile looks great, so i wouldn’t be too concerned. Just put a breif but honest review of your host, as it will also be good for future sitters of red flags to be aware off. Best off luck

Hi Twitcher! Eva actually contacted me and asked me if I am open to share with her my review. I told her what I wrote : that the place and the horses are beautiful but that she was tough towards my questions at times and that I became scared to ask for anything. Also said I would have liked to know about the horse s condition and that I can tell she is a very good person but we didn t click in communication styles.

We will see what she says. I didn t ask her. She just said thanks.

Reviews are blind for very good reason. I definitely wouldn’t share a review before posting.
Hope all goes well for you in the future and thank you for coming back to the forum and updating us.
Some of us feel we have been on the ‘journey’ with you. :hugs:

Thank you so much! :folded_hands:t3: It really helped me to have this space for sharing otherwise I would have had to figure out all by myself and I have a life and a job too so it’s not like I was free to take on a lot of mental load from this experience.

Although I could have been more organised and ask more questions before. I asked no questions before just thinking all will fall into place - this was my bad.

I even saw that people do housesits for money! I think I really allowed myself to be in a vulnerable position thinking only about pleasing and not knowing my rights.

It was a bit odd to be asked about the review.

I read the reviews @DanaNedelcu. I noted that this HO has lost a star for communication a few times before.

Yes—I would say her and your reviews balanced well and both were written in a respectful tone with pertinent details.
Here’s to tranquil sitting experiences from here on out!:clinking_glasses:

I looked at your host review, and i dont think it will effect you. It just shows that the hand over wasnt done correctly, and a normal host would let people know.
My current sit im doing, the dog got sick before i arrived, and the host let me know, asked if i wanted a video call etc to discuss, and told me it was now on medications. I thanked him for the new information and i said i would deal with what ever the situation was when i arrived. Thsnkfully, the dog was well by time I artived, but i appreciated the hosesty before the sit.
